Knocking In Engine When Fans Turns On
Knocking In Engine When Fans Turns On
So I searched around and didn't find anything like my situation. After my car gets to normal operating temp. and while parked idling the fan turns on to cool it down, it gets a deep knocking sound. After the fan turns off the knocking goes away and runs smooth and quiet, like normal. While it's knocking, can also give it a little gas, up to 1300-1500rpms+, it goes away too.
Anybody else had this one happen?
I stopped by Fairfield Infiniti while at Travis AFB and they think it's one of my throttle bodies and the valve may have gotten stuck in some way and the sound is echoing through the intake manifold, but they can't be sure without changing it/them out, which they don't have any TBs handy so they'd have to order it. I'll be calling Beshoff(cause they're closer to Monterey) and explaining the situation, what Fairfield said, and scheduling a service with them in a couple weeks to get it fixed. But mine wasn't in need of the valve timing TSB, and the techs said it wasn't the infamous "ester knock", so this was a new one on them.
Thoughts?

It's knocking from the VVEL, it's "normal", but annoying. I switched to an ester based fully synthetic oil and haven't had an issue since. When the oil heats up it becomes very thin and it doesn't coat the head as well which causes the infamous ticking/knocking noise you're talking about. I use Motul X-Max 5w30 which is fully synthetic with ester.
