Exhaust Wrap on Berk HFCs
Exhaust Wrap on Berk HFCs
I was thinking about wrapping my Berk HFCs with exhaust wrap. I have read that if I wrap a catalytic converter with exhaust wrap, the increase of heat may shorten the life of the cat and possibly cause problems/ or failure.
I would assume this applies to OEM cats, therefore was wondering what could happen if i were to wrap my HFCs? would i run into problems? will my HFCs cause problems and possibly fail?
I mainly want to wrap the HFCs for two reasons: first to decrease the amount of heat coming from underneath my car; and second possibly decreasing the infamous hissing sound from hfc deceleration.
any info or help would be appreciated. thanks.

I believe there's a few people that have wrapped their HFCs or test pipes with no problem. You may have to search around on the forum.

Ive had mine wrapped for over 6 months, not problems.
I've got berk HFCs and love the hissing sounding with decreasing speed and gears. Also, do you really even notice the heat? Why wrap?

The hiss/rasp depends alot on what exhaust you have. I am currently running BERK HFC, Exhaust Depot Y pipe and Tanabe Hyper Medalion mufflers.
The wrap helps change the resonance of the HFC, not much but it was enough to eliminate the slight rasp I was hearing. Also provides a slight amount of insulation against the sound.

Nothing at all. efuseakay was a retard
1. It is under your car it barely gets spashed unless you are driving thought 2 foot deep puddles
2. While driving it is several hundred degrees, any water that spashes on it will be immediatly evaporated.
Really all you need to worry about is speed bumps. Your cats and mufflers are typically the low points of your car. When going over a big speed bump, that is what will scrape. If you are lowered, you may rip the wrap right off.

Any chance somebody has a sound clip or a description of what this rasp sounds like? I just got some Berk HFCs and an ARK Performance Grip exhaust and at some RPMs it sounds kind of like a rattlesnake rattle sound. I thought this wasn't normal behavior but if this is the same sound you are speaking of I'll need to reinterpret what i am hearing.
Then what I am hearing must be something else. This doesn't happen at WOT it can happen anywhere between 3000-6000 RPM.
I think I have heard the sound you are speaking of though its a really quick sound maybe 1/4th of a second or so high pitched metallic sound.
The sound I am hearing is fairly low frequency compared to that one.
