First Oil Change.

I have had my new car since dec 14th and i have 975 miles on it right now. They suggest that the first oil change should be at 3700 miles. I just went on a 12 day vacation and it was not driven for those days. should i still get the oil changed at 3700 or should i change it sooner?

I'm not a mechanic so consider that with my reply but I'd wait for 3700 or so, just sitting for 12 days isn't going to do much I wouldn't think. If it was a couple months then I might ask around, but not for a bit under two weeks IMO.

I agree with Arvig I would do 3700 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. No need to get it done within 3 months, I think its just excessive!

I'm getting mine done as soon as possible after break-in. Given that though, I break in my cars hard, so that's my thinking behind it.

I went with a first change at 3000 miles and decided on Mobil 1 Extended 0W30.

yeah you're fine to wait till 3700. like Arvig said, if it was sitting for >30 days then that's one thing but just a handful of days wont be a problem.

that being said, if you do have to leave it sitting for a long time (>1 month), make sure you or someone else goes and just runs the engine to operating temp once a week or so to keep all the fluids from settling

I'm treating my new G37 exactly as I did my 2000 Maxima. Went strictly by the book religiously and drove it hard only when passing, emergencies, etc. but always at a decent speed (e.g. 80MPH or so). Result? Sold my Max at 170K plus miles and it was still tight as a drum. Flawless. Like new, only silkier from its experience. "Driving it like you stole it" is imaginative, but both couterproductive and immature. Treat the damned machine with respect and it will repay you.

I just talked to the service manager at the dealership yesterday (I'm at about 2650 and was due for 3750 the week of 1/18) and he said to call them to schedule around 3500 but that it should be fine until then. I've also been out of town quite a bit since I bought my coupe so not nearly as many miles as I would normally be putting on it.
