Hey, first off ur a newb for not knowing what that is . And second of all esteroil is oil is pretty much a "better quality" oil for your car. Just go to ur dealer and ask for the ester oil and they will charge u a lil bit extra but they can use that oil for you. If your car starts getting clinking noises when you turn it on, that when i suggest you use ester oil. Although there are many substitutes that are cheaper than ester oil.

Dont be a jerk to the guy for asking a simple question like that and calling him a NEWB. Not everyone is knowledgable about such things. Part of the purpose of a forum like this is to help out fellow G37 enthusiast instead of faulting the guy for not knowing something.

To answer your question, yes you can still use regular oil on your G37. BUT, just know that Infiniti does recommend that you use Ester oil on our cars. Basically,Ester Oil bonds to our engine parts even after you shut off your engine. To read more about it....click on the link below to read up on it.

you can buy ester oil outside of the store, they will vary in quality and are inherently expensive. I believe all "consumer" ester blends are synthetic.

In this case, I think the nissan ester is the cheapest of the bunch... but not by much. They're all about 14-20 dollars a qt. and you need 6qt or so.

supposedly ester oil is like a RQ for the VVEL cause the VVEL banks is a very tight system and the small ester oil particles are actually small enough to lubricate and stick providing better protection from heat and friction. at the end of the day w/o the ester additive the clicking is bad news. However, I don't remember how long it took for the the ester oil to go live w/ the G37 came out... I think it was a couple months and I don't think it was a massive recall telling everyone to swap out their oil for the ester.

Or you can spend 10 seconds on Google and type in "What is Ester Oil."

^ right but you won't get a specific detailed answer as it relates to Nissan and our G's. People who have been members for a while need to lighten up. Using the canned "use the search feature" is great but the search function isn't that robust and most of us don't have the time to read through the many posts a search generates. If you don't want to answer a question, don't and just move on. There are others that realize they were new and uninformed once and don't might helping people out even if it's a common question.

I am actually generally very open to answering questions that have been beaten to death. But it depends on the relevance to the topic. I agree that sometimes it's easier to just post the question than doing a search but if that's the case, the forum would just be inundated with repeats. I was just encouraging the use of the search function. Because frankly, from the question the OP posted, answers can be found in less than 1 min without having to read through any 10 page threads.

Hope people don't get the wrong idea when they see the "do a search" replies and take advantage of the archive.

It's off the topic. But yeah, a reasonable member should always search first before posting more questions, related to Nissan/Infiniti or not.

I'm not saying don't do a search but say I'm in the market for LED mods .... any idea how many posts come up when you search LED? So sometimes a specific question is needed to be asked. I'm a member because I own a G37 Coupe, wasn't aware there were other prerequisits. I work, have a family so I can't log hours during the day or evening in one shot. I just finished reading this entire 21 page topic so it is being done.

I'm still not clear on whether Nissan or other "ester" oils are better than Mobil 1 for example. Mobil has a faq on oil and the question is asked about using Nissan "ester" oils on a G37 - Mobil responded that all of their synthetics contain ester oils in some quantity and that their analysis of Nissan ester oil did not show anything unique about it - and recommended their high mileage version of Mobil 1 for the G37. I think I will likely use the Nissan product and have the dealer do the change but it isn't clear to me that this product - apart from the manufacturer's claims - is distinct from the competition. I'd rather be on a more widely available oil though.
