Selling intakes?
Selling intakes?
Hey guys, failry new to the G (37xsedan) and just kind of confused on a trend? i noticed. Quite a few people are selling their intakes fairly quickly after getting them, so im just curious why?
I had a fairly modded Maxima before and had an intake in for a good 2 years. Although its been known to cause MAF issues in the Maxima, i never did.
Just looking for some advice before i spend $500 and hopefully not sell for $300 a month later :-/
So are there any drawbacks/issues to the intakes on the G?
(i did some research and could not find much viable info)
Thnks!

I sold my injens! Felt loss in power and especialy torque in lower rpm. If you must have the sound then get them but worthless IMO . I sAy save your money and get a catback !
I went through two intakes in my 07 350z and felt like stocks pulled harder but those JWT did sound mean. Had jwt on the 37 also but sold right away for injen Sri and did sound good I honestly miss the sound but love that I hear exhaust more! We will c if I repurchase but will only benefit with a tune I think but. No good tunes so far that I've seen.

Does the performance deteriorate for some reason over time?
The Maxima I had, had only one TB and it was a SR intake so the gains were minimal (if any). But the sound was great and i only dished out $160 for it... however $500 just for sound is a bit much IMO.
People sell for many many reasons. I know many that have sold because they needed cash, or just wanted to switch up their setup. A friend of mine has gone through I believe 90% of all the exhausts available for our car right now.
The only change in performance was when I installed the intakes. The gain was clearly felt under any condition of driving (streets, cruising, highway...etc). I haven't noticed any drop off but to be fair, if for some reason there is "performance deterioration" and it happened little by little over time, it would be hard to catch.
The price difference from Maxima intakes may take some time to get used to. But it is a much different car, more expensive, better performance, more luxurious. The 2 cars are in completely difference classes. Not to mention you're getting dual (2) intakes, as opposed to 1. I think CAI is the way to go if you don't mind a longer install. You'd avoid heat soak with CAIs. And the other CAI choice is obviously Stillen. I don't have first hand experience but a local friend of mine reported scary lean AF ratios when he dynoed his Stillens. I don't have any results to prove it, it was from his first hand experience.
Check with Lou at Amplified Motorsports for current pricing on the Injens. I'm not sure if it's still $500. Don't forget to mention that you're from the forum and have read my post!
Good luck!

^^ Thanks for all that, great info!
Looks like ill be getting the Injen then (that was my 1sy choice anyways) in the summer when the weather will permit an enjoyable install.
Question on the Injen: I can see that the filters are not in a very accessible area... any experience of changing/cleaning them since the install?
Thanks again,

That's the downfall ! The install and cleaning and your chances of being submerged in water are higher. Big nono here in south flo... Benefit from injen Sri is easy install, amsoil non oiled filters, easy to clean , but have not seen any good dynos on them! And less $$$ all great reasons to buy however I'm
wondering how much of a diff in performance these give compared to cold air . Might be minimal difference if that.

I have removed my bumper numerous times so it's not that big of a hassle for me. It really isn't that difficult.
Everyone is right but I think of it this way: I'd rather enjoy the performance gain of a CAI and knowing that my intakes are not sucking in warm air every time I get into the car then spending some extra effort in cleaning/replacing the filter once in a very while. It came down to, enjoy CAI all the time, deal with the hassle once every few months or suck in warm air all the time, and save time on cleaning every few months.

One thing that happens that I have noticed is that a new CAI becomes available, vendors post about it and/or offer group buys, the buzz gets going and pretty soon everyone is itching for a new CAI. I think you can track this pretty well on the forum if you look back over the last couple years. I'm not exactly sure of the order they came in but when I joined Stillen was all the rage, then it was JWT Popchargers, then Stillen Gen 3, then ... I've been sucked in myself.
From what I ve read so far on intake, none have proved to live up to the hype with the exception of the INJEN like UCLA posted and I believe the R2C. If you're going for sound then it doesn't matter otherwise go with one of those two.
Personally chose to go with drop-in filters from HKS until I can TT or SC for some serious gain.
