My clutch!

So I was driving today about to get on the expressway, going about 50 in 3rd gear. I see that the flow of traffic is fast so I punch the gas and at about 75 I went to drop it in fourth gear, buuuut i dropped it into second When I was driving it after that I noticed my clutch was vibrating. Everything works, shifts are clean. I press the clutch and i don't feel too much but as soon as I start to release it it starts vibrating and makes a vibrating sound along with it >_< Any idea as to what might of happened? And please don't point out my stupidity lol thankss

Man you should be fine. Today i revved up to 6,000 in 2nd and went to shift into 3rd and GRIND...needless to say i immediately disengaged the clutch. Not the first time this has happened seems like it only does this in going into 3rd.

Like it's not like it scratched....when i dropped it to second (going about 82) it actually dropped in! i don't get why it didn't just kick back...even my car sounds a little different now, just not the same. Clutch is vibrating as soon as i press it. When its held all the way down you don't feel anything. As soon as i start letting it go its vibrating again

I would get your engine checked out immediately, as 75 in 2nd is roughly 9400 rpm. Shifting feels fine because the tranny isn't affected too much by an overrev. If it engaged in 2nd fine, then the clutch is fine as well.

The valves, retainers, and springs are what I'd be worried about. And yes, the ECU does record the overrev. The long term effects of overrevving a VHR is unknown, as the engine is still relatively new.

drain your battery, dunno if it works or not, but my buddy at an acura dealer say when you drain the battery completely dead, it erases the over-rev codes in Acuras.. Sshhh!

So I hadn't driven my car in 3 days now cuz I was up in New York. Started driving it again and the vibration is pretty much gone. I had someone tell me there could've been a hotspot because of what I had done. Still think I should get it checked out??

I dont think you did anything to the engine. You have a rev Limiter.

A vibration though is not good and if anything take it to the dealership but of course dont tell them you dropped it to second at 85 lol!

I've so far at 15,000+ miles gridded my gears 5 time 3 where at about 6,000 RPM+ shifting and no issues thank God!

I don't like the stock clutch at all. Its noisy and feels lose down there.

Going hi-perf clutch for tax refund next year.

Dang man... talk about an accidental shift.

I have grinded 3rd gear about 6x over the past 9 months of owning the car. Stupid 3rd gear...

It's still ok tho...

A Rev Limiter keeps the engine from going over a certain RPM while the engine speed is increasing (The engine has leverage over the rear wheels)...one way for example is to start dropping cylinders, 1 at a time.

When you down-shift, it isn't fuel/spark causing the engine speed to increase. Instead, the rear wheels actually have leverage over the motor instead of the other way around....in other words, the rear wheels are suddenely driving the motor and can cause the motor to go well beyond the point of damage...the Rev Limiter has no control over this.

Why is this that everyone seems to grind 3rd gear? What causes this?

Third is the gear everyone shifts aggressively into.
