Question concerning the the new transmission.

I am going to purchase the all new G37 Sedan after 3 days ... YEAR of waiting for it to arrive!!! Hope that the waiting was worth it since I could have bought the G35 for 8K LESS!!
My questions are:
1: How can I find out if the transmission is 7 Speed since I asked my dealership and they said they are not sure...............
2: Does the DS mode differ from the G35 Sedan or is it the same
3: Since the new car is supposed to be 7 speed; what is better - racing using normal D mode or the DS mode?

Thanks.

All auto g's are 7 speed. There is no more 5 speed. I would race in ds mode since you can shift at the redline verses the trans shifting when it feels like it.

1) All the new AT sedans come with a 7 speed, you can always put it on DS mode and move the shifter up through gears till you hit 7th
2) No difference in operation
3) By racing you mean drag strip or auto-cross/track? If on the road best thing to do is to put it on N and pull over

I thought the car comes with a 7speed AT and 6speed (DS mode), so how can we shift up to the 7th gear in DS mode.. I am confused

Buy the car some where else. If they do not know what transmission the car will have they have no business selling it to you.

+++++1. I totally agree. Dealership is important to experience.

I agree with Mike and KLB.... However the 2009 G37 has the 7AT or 6MT transmission and the 2007/2008 models have the 5AT or 6MT......

My car can shift up to 7th gear in DS mode. I did it this morning on my drive to work.

After putting it on DS mode, you can move the shifter up or down to upshift or downshift.

Check the links in my signature for Factory Manuals

09s have the 7at. you car has 7 gears at ALL times - this does not change. D is normal driving, DS allows the ecu to shift closer to redline and Manual is well manual using either the stick or paddle shifters. for the quickest times, DS is recommended as it will allow the car to run harder and the computer will always be quicker than a human shift.

I don't think the car will choose to use 7th gear in DS mode. At least I have never noticed it doing so.

You can manually shift there any time you want though.
