6MT problems????

Guys I keep reading about clutch and tranny problems. As a matter of fact the 6MT that I test drove a few days ago was a buy back from Infiniti because of a tranny noise the owner complained about. What is going on with this tranny, so many problems?

the tranny is just a bit more notchy than i'm used to, but i'm told it is normal... but then again i had my tranny replaced at like 7500 miles for broken synchronizers/cones

Hey aliiin, how's your new transmission been? I read through your old thread and last I saw you had problems again shifting to 3rd.

Notchy? It's not butter soft like the S2000 I've lightly driven (once) but not that bad. Knock on wood -- my 6MT is not bad to engage gears, provided I step on the clutch all the way and have it at the right RPM for the speed ...

I will admit, it's sometimes difficult to get into reverse if the car starts rolling down the driveway when it's cold out or if I'm rolling to a stop, it's tough to get into 1st unless I'm close to a standstill ... maybe I'm not that sensitive.

My clutch is pretty weak to be honest. I have 25k on my car and had never done a hard launch since taking delivery. A couple weeks ago I was at a redlight and just decided to see what she'd do so I rev'd to about 4k rpm and dropped the clutch. Next thing I know its bouncing off the rev limiter in gear but with no forward progress. Needless to say I let off the gas and put it back in neutral. When I started off again (very gingerly) it was really jerky and I babied it to the next gas station where I was greeted with some pungent burnt clutch smell. I was sure the clutch was screwed but after cooling off it has worked normally ever since. Still it pisses me off that I almost ruined the clutch doing my first ever really hard launch. It must be really weak....

Guys the 6MT that I test drove, the clutch pedal disengage very high. I remember in older cars the pedal could be adjusted, but I don't know much about the G. Is the clutch pedal adjustable or is it an specific setting?

I second all the concerns here. What is up with this 6MT? I've driven many manuals and never had one complain so much about normal usage. My transmission now whines so loud I can hear it in the car, with music on, windows up or down, in any gear from 1-4th. Very loud.... Then on top of that, the clutch makes considerable noise (throw out bearing bad?) since I've bought it (with 8 miles on it, from factory and written down as such on the sheet in the glove compartment box). I mean, it sounds like someone has a piece of steel and they are rubbing it agains a spinning notched metal wheel. It's loud...

Then the clutch, I've found has been very weak. There was one particular instance where I did a more active launch ( but nothing crazy). It was at 2500rpm, and I did a "LITTLE" bit of clutch slip to inhibit a good launch and as I gassed it and had the clutch fully let out, the clutch fell to the floor, unable to hold the engine to the tranny I guess, and I had to let off and start off slow.

I'm going to see if I can get the transmission replaced as I feel it is shot, then hopefully they'll see the throwout bearing/clutch issues which I had them note down (and I'm sure they promptly erased) at 3000 miles. I think after all that work, which will take me months I'm sure as I'll have to go through infiniti corporate as the dealership out here is crooked, I'll probably just go out and order a high end clutch/throw out bearing/pressure plate assembly that can actually handle the engine it is mated to.

Oh, and did I mention I only have 6800 miles on my car?

I drive mine hard and I have a JWT stage 2 clutch/flywheel and mines loud and the tranny is just tough to push into gear..I like it though gives me a reason not to allow girls to drive it and you gotta really force it into gear

when you say it's tough to push it into gear can you describe it more? like you have to put a lot of force just to put it in gear?

Did that include new pressure plates? It's odd that it is harder to put into gear now. Maybe I just don't fully understand the changes that occur when you put in new clutch assembly/etc but I would think alignment of the gearbox is the same and so the gear stick would be as easy/hard to put into gear as it was prior to the changes.

I just picked up an 08, brand new (about 20 miles on it), and now with about 600 miles on it, my 6MT is as smooth as my S2000's, which I've also had since brand new (06). My G may have been produced late (still had tape all over it at the dealer), maybe they fixed something?

At 1200 miles I did the same thing. You canot rev past 2,000 without burning this clutch.

Well, I'm definitely not having the issues that you guys are running into. It's not as butter smooth as the TSX (yes, I LOVED that MT), but it's not horrible either. My shifts are all fine (except 2-3 which can be rough once in a blue moon).
