non-synthetic, with ester additive.
Recommend for use in specific applications where Ester oil is recommended.

300V is on the extreme end of high performance oils; 8100 is by far the more popular Motul we use here. I've tried both in the past, but I figure spending 30 extra dollars a change is worth any extra protection that I probably won't use. I think of it as getting 15/30 vs 100/300 auto insurance.

Wow non-synthetic? I don't like that.

As far as I know... the bottle simply says "Petroleum oil" It *could* be synthetic, but until I'm told otherwise, I'm going to say its not.

i dont believe the nissan ester oil is synthetic. like mike said, oil changes are the 1 thing i dont mind spending some extra $ on for better engine protection. so far it looks like im leaning towards motul 300v 5w30 around 5k miles.

oh and you need to use your macro function and some image stabilization for those pics mike.

Camera phone... I was about 4 inches from the bottle lol.

Figured I was safe but I guess not; I just got it a week ago and havn't had a chance to really experiment with the camera yet.

It has anti-shake which works

I'll take another picture for you.

Technically, I believe the 09 maxima requires it as well, but I'm not sure.

Any qualified 5W30 oil will keep your warranty intact. The Ester oil is recommended for anyone with the "tick".

Go to another dealer if they keep insisting that.

ya my dealer never had a problem before with using mobil 1 on my g35. we'll see how stringent they are about the ester on the 37.

Yup.. its official.

Side note: Original images was 1.09mb, and photobucket restricts free accounts to 1mb, so it got resized anyways from 5MP to about 1.2MP

dealer just "recommended" Ester

California coast dealer just recommended Ester, but not required. Spent $50 on first visit after 3K+ miles / 4 months. 5-30W was $3/qt, Mobil would have been $10/qt, and Ester was $12/qt, I believe. Besides my question on VVEL ticking TSB, also included them checking if my weak battery should be changed, rpm surge noticed, question on rear axle noise, opinion on muffler noise, and air bag varistor issue...they say all OK to them. I wonder if Infiniti reimburses the dealer for the TSB checks if nothing found? If engine ticks without the Ester, I would expect them to cover extra cost during warranty.

Any YouTube audio/video of the ticking noise and loudest location?

$10/qt for mobil 1 is high. Just goes to show that the "Nissan Ester Oil" that they recommend prob isnt that great compared to Mobil 1.
