there feels like a resistance as if i'm hitting something when i shift into 3rd gear, it doesn't always happen though. i don't really grind, it's just not as smooth as it is in every other gear.

The G37 is much better than the first gen 6MT in the G35/350Z. I am surprised you are having issues with yours. I havent heard of many other people havent grinding issues with the trans.

Keep us posted, and curious of others have had grinding problems.

My 5-6 shift is not as smooth as the others, but it doesn't grind. I just presumed that ws how the tranny is built.

aliiin, is this your first MT? Do you sometimes miss the shift from 2 to 3? I'm just wondering why you have a transmission failure with so relatively few miles on the car. Which dealership?

well, this isn't my first MT, but my first car, i started driving when i was 15... i learned on a nissan frontier, and now i'm 20... but in the process i've driven numerous manual cars such as: acura nsx, porsche 911, toyota tacoma, honda s2k, civic si, rsx type s and probably a few others that i can't remember, so i'm not inexperienced when it comes to driving manual

oh, i never miss the 2-3 shift... not that i recall... i don't drive hard and don't abuse my tranny, although sometimes i drive a little more spirited

when you say the 5-6 isn't smooth, what do you mean by that? can you describe it in more detail?

and the dealership is Sewell Infiniti of Dallas.

I wonder if a little rev matching would help. Even with our race car, I am very east on rh equipment because I heal toe and rev match.

It definitely doesn't grind, but does stick slightly before going into 6th sometimes if I don't have the right engine RPM. It's just generally not as smooth as the other shifts because of the way the tranny is built. I don't heel-toe.

I though you'd purchased in Houston.

Sometimes I have trouble going from 2nd to 3rd and it'll grind once in a blue moon. I can feel the feedback from the teeth of the gears on the stick. Again, it doesn't happen often, but 2nd to 3rd is the one that gives me problems. Don't have any problems with any other shifts.

I had the same issue, grinding when clutch is fully depressed and entering 5th gear. They replaced the synchronizers on my car and now I have a VERY VERY loud supercharge sounding whine coming from my transmisison. I had 0 whine before I brought it in to be worked on. I guess I'm going to need a new tranny. That or they will try and piecemeal it back together and screw it up worse...

No grinding issues - but I also had the supercharger whining sound in 1st thru 3rd, in addition to a clearly audible whirring noise while in neutral with the clutch out. Dealer ended up replacing the tranny last week after telling me that "they all sound like that" the previous 2 times I complained about it.

I found a couple of other used mt G37's for sale locally and took them for a test ride to see whether this was the case - it definitely wasn't! Neither of the other cars made the whining noise, and both were quiter when idling in neutral with the clutch out, so I went back to the dealer and insisted that a Tech go for a ride with me. We didn't even go 2 blocks before the Tech agreed something didn't sound right. 20 minutes after we got back to the shop the advisor comes out and tells me I'm getting a new tranny.

Nice & quiet now, and down shifting is smoother.
