If you need somebody to back you in a lawsuit or just to confirm your problem with a dealership, pm me and I will say what you need me to say...
I will do that, thanks! I had a conversation with a car "expert" this evening. He is a friend and writes for an automotive mag that deals exclusively with cars in the price range of $80k and up. His comment - you have a lemon! He further stated that all automatic transmissions have a lag of some type, but nothing that amounts to a neutral drop and nothing longer than 1 second. He also went on to say that a lag, in and of itself, isn't a problem, but the sluggishness and the "slip" between 1st and 2nd adds up to a problem in the tranny for sure.

And, between the other problems with leather and the seats, you can bet that this car was built on a Friday.

Anybody that wants to complain to their dealer that this is happening would help. If it affects more than just my car, then there is a problem and Infiniti needs to recognize it on a larger scale.

I have the same problem when switch to manual from DS. But I never downshift to 1st. Usually I take a turn on DS, downshift to 2nd, hit the gas and then LAGGGGG. It doesn't always happen though.

Ya I also found if you never downshift to first gear manually its not a problem. Really no need to manually downshift to 1...I usually let the car go to first gear on its own when I come to a stop. For slow stops and rolls I stay in second.

I've never experienced a neutral drop type problem. For those experiencing the lag- that's different. You can counter the lag by double gassing when it occurs. You can also prevent the lag by engaging the gas pedal BEFORE clicking the pedal to downshift.

Hey guys, I faced the same problem while accelerating suddenly on low speed. I took it back to the dealer to rectify the problem, they claimed that it might need some ECU adjustments, they had a special Japanese team at the time so they made these guys perform some re-programming on my car. The whole thing took almost 3 hours of test driving, analyzing and programming, I was impressed! But I got really frustrated when I tested the car and found out that it’s still the same!

I thought it might be from the hot climate because temperatures rise till 54 degree Celsius over here in the summer lol I didn’t know what to do so I decided to rape the car. Frankly speaking, after 2 weeks of abuse, I tested the car again just out of curiosity and surprisingly there was no lag!

So my friend, my advice to you is, ignore the damn full of BS greedy dealers and teach your car a tough lesson, it might turn out good.

Buff.

Me Too...

I have the same exact problem, and my 5AT is brand new. The dealer, who is a good one, cannot recreate it either, because neither can I. It only happens once in a blue moon, except that once it happened when I was making a left turn. I had shifted into DS and then quickly down to 1st to get some grip, except all I got was a 2-second no response. I was left there helplessly while oncoming traffic was coming. Then after 2-seconds of nothing, it rocketed me forward. Luckily I had plenty of room, otherwise I would have been t-boned. I have also had it happen one time when kicking over and downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. It has only happened to me when I do quick shift to manual, I have not had it happen in DS mode yet. When it happens though, I don't even remember the engine revving? Of course I had my music on, so I'll have to try to recreate it with the radio... They have gotta find the problem and recall this before it causes a serious accident!

And I know it is not shift lag, I just upgraded from my '03 G35 which actually had an awesome shift response time. Plus no shift lag takes 2 full seconds. Could this be why they are changing the transmission to the new 6AT/7MT so quickly?

It seems that is the imfamous lag that folks get when you are slowing to make a turn and downshifting at the same time and then you press the gas to accelerate the tranny is still trying to rev match. That one is difficult to duplicate but 2 seconds is still an awefull long time. You might try to practice duplicating it and then seeing if a tech can go on a ride with you.

try shifting to 2nd gear and driving on the engine speed, then rapidly shift to 1st and floor it. in my case it always lagged for few seconds and i noticed that everytime it lagged, the RPM remains at 2500. i did demonstrate it few times while testing the car with the dealer's engineer riding with me, it should work with u too.

My dealer acknoweldges the problem but cannot/will not do anything about it... they claim it is operating normally. I am contemplating Lemon Law, as I am talking about 2-5 seconds.

Just read the first post and you are not alone. I have the same problem. Freakin' car gets stuck as the tranny goes from second to first. It sucks to jump into traffic, hit the throttle and then NOTHING HAPPENS! Truly an unsafe situation.

Ok, after reading this entire thread, it seems no one has yet found a fix?
Just to put a different spin on it, let me explain how and when it happens to my 5AT 2008 G37 (approx 14K miles).
I drive in manual mode always, not Auto, not DS. I downshift typically only to 2nd gear and the car shifts into 1st all by itself. USUALLY when I approach a stop sign, red light or intersection, I stop. Then I hit the accelerator and go, no problem. But, let's say I am approaching a red light in second, gradually slowing and preparing to stop, no throttle. Just before stopping, the light turns green and I hit the gas. That's when it happens, the tranny seems stuck or confused. It was about to stop, but is now being asked to go. So it just lags. Now there are possibly cars coming towards me and I need my car to move, NOW! So I push the gas firmer, but nothing happens. Might be 2 seconds might be 5, but when you're stalled on the road with cars approaching it feels like eternity! Then, all of a sudden the tranny figures out that I want to GO, and that I am now nearly floored. It then clunks into gear and lurches wildly forward. It sucks and it is very dangerous.

If you want to re-create this problem, just practice "california" stops. This is when you come to almost a complete stop, but not quite. Then if you are unlucky enough to throttle at just the right time, you will be temporarily stuck.
