32 miles and service engine soon light

HI All,

I got my G37S 6MT today after driving the loaner which was unexpected as last thought was it would be Monday.

Outside of being confused with some of the voice commands, I had the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light some on at 32 miles. I drove home the 5 miles and now am looking in the manual.

I hope the Service Engine Soon is some cosmetic error.

The only thing I found in the manual about a SOLID service engine soon was to check the gas cap. I unscrewed it and screwed it back on until it just clicked.

This is kind of a let down.

That's funny, my car had more miles than that when I picked it up. Get it checked out at the dealership! Maybe you should call them first; they might know what it is if it's something that happens reasonably often--especially if it is just a cosmetic error.

Believe me, the first call will be to the dealer tomorrow.

I know in the loaner, they didnt put enough washer fluid in since I constantly got the alert since it seemed odd at 30 miles.

Now 32 miles and service engine soon doesnt sound good to me.

mine went on at 500, i guess it was the gas cap, they had to clear it, and replace the gas cap cuz of a leak

I talked to the service manager and he said it is more than likely the gas cap and he said it is 100% safe to drive.

I am going to swing by there later this morning and he will take a look at it. Hopefully it is the gas cap thing. At the very least, I will get him to reset the cel assuming that was it.

Just open up the gas cap and then close it again. Make sure it turns three times at least. Mine did this and this turned the light off if it is the gas cap not being tight enough. Now if it is a defective gas cap then the dealership will need to replace it.

That is definitely not supposed to happen. What was the mileage at when you took delivery? They should have ran a pre-delivery inspection to make sure all the fluids, etc are all in top shape. Let us know how it works out

I think they rushed the inspection. My car came in yesterday and said it would be ready on Friday by noon. They wanted me to drive in at 6pm to fill out the paperwork and then pick up the car on Friday. I refused so they called back and said the car was ready.

I took it to the dealer today and they said it showed the coolant was too hot and said the sensor was fine. They reset it and said they would replace the part if the service engine soon light comes back on.

I have driven it about 60 miles today in mainly city driving and it has not come back on so I am hoping it is not a big deal.

I like it better when they know 100% sure why it came on.

How did dealership get the car? Was it a transfer from another dealer? I have no idea why the coolant would show that it was too hot, but i hope everything works out well for you.

good luck

I put a good bit of miles on it Friday and Saturday and have no lights on.

I am not driving the car too hard as I am trying to break it in properly at least for the first 600 miles or so.

Awesome, me too. Taking it easy for the first 1200 as per that one thread says. I'm now at 600, so about halfway more to go!

I just picked up my 37 yesterday and got the same thing.

I picked it up with about 95 miles on it, had to drive home in some traffic, then went straight to work. No light was on at this time.

8 hours later when i left work and started the car, the light was on. I have no idea why. Im gonna go check the gas cap. I hope thats it.
