I know everyone is hot about the GTR AP coming out so fast, but as someone who has been following this from the beginning, Cobb stated the main reason they would be able to release the AP for the GTR so quickly was because there is only one version of the ECU for that car, whereas our car has 10 different versions. That being said, to me it still makes sense to spend the development time in producing an AP for a mass produced car (Our G37 and now the new 370z ) as the volume of units would still = profitability. Not to mention G37 owners are typically more affluent. So here's to hoping they still hit their September release date for our cars.

I wonder if anyone at Cobb knows how to market. Produce an AP for a car that will have 1000 out and how many of those will be tuned for extra power or produce an AP for a car that has should in the thousands and is owned by many performance car advocates and can be used in the newer 370Z. I don't understand this crap.
Yeah, I hear ya. I remember being frustrated like this about the lack of performance parts for my Celica a few years back.

My thoughts exactly. It may have been easier to get the AP to the market for a GT-R because there is only one ecu unlike our cars. Also, since it is a TT, cobb may just be increasing the boost to get increased numbers. Kinda like how the BMW TT 3.0 has so many cheap devises that get them an additional 50hp/tq.

I also see they jacked up the price by $300 for the GT-R AP. I don't have any way to know for certain if it somehow cost them more to produce it than it does every other AP or not but I doubt it. As the developers and owners of the technology they have an absolute right to charge whatever they want to. I will go on record as saying that if the G37 AP costs one dollar more than the $695 that every other on has cost, I won't buy it based solely on principle.

Don't feel like reading all 10 pages, but from what I see they keep on pushing back the release.

I doubt the costs went up on that car and very possibly went down due to the powerplant and single ecu setup but... the sales potential on the gtr will be way way less as there will be much fewer of those on the road. So, that's how they'll recoup the cost and come out ahead on something who's volume potential will be drastically less.

They're counting on the baller-status of GT-R owners.

all gt-r parts are going to be expensive... simply because there aren't many willing buyers. The producers R&D + capital investment cost has to be split between few buyers.

i emailed cobb once again and i got this..basically the dude is re-assuring me that he is positive about the early sept. release date:
We are still on schedule for our G37 release date. There were many business and technical reasons why the GT-R AccessPORT was released first, but I won't bore you with the details. The key thing to keep in mind is for us to release an AccessPORT for a vehicle, such as the GT-R, later 350Z, or newest G35/G37, we have to support all the various versions. Just to release for the G35/G37 in the US only, we have to support 20 different ECU types. For the GT-R, worldwide thus far, we have 2.

First week of September and we should have all the G35/G37 and HR 350Zs taken care of. ;-)

Ok, I need to clarify this. From what I remember reading, and yes, I'm too lazy to double check and re-read threads, You can only use the pre-set stage 1 or stage 2 maps that are on the AP right? I believe Cobb said something like stage 1 was a stock, or close to stock car, and stage 2 was like HFC exhaust or headers. I also remember (maybe) Cobb stated you can't have aftermarket intakes with the AP, and the maps were tuned for stock-intakes only. Is this still the case? I'm not spending a dime if all I get is a AP with 2 generic maps programmed that do nothing for all my mods I have, and might possibly hurt my car since I'm running JWT pop-chargers. Plus, Cobb won't release custom tuning software for custom maps for a year probably This is looking like a major FAIL
