Is this normal? Or a bad sign
I have 1125 miles on my G37. I have noticed that when coming out of 1st gear, the rpm goes till like 4 before the gear shifts. This seems odd to me, and I have never noticed that on my other G's.
I'm wondering if its normal, and just due to my driving habits. I'm hoping to bring my anxiety level down, by being reassured, that this is no sign of transmission failure or something else.
Any thoughts? Should I just relax and enjoy the ride?

That happened to me on my e46, but that occured at 30,000 miles. It was the clutch that kept slipping, and I had to repair the clutch plate. This shouldnt be the case for you at 1125, so i say you get it checked out.
your post isn't very clear. ''when you come out of first" does that mean after you disengage the clutch in 1st gear and shift into neutral? is it after you engage the clutch in 2nd gear? do you even have a clutch, is your car manual or auto?...
I have about the same number of miles that you do and I have noticed that the automatic transmission does not really have any "fixed" shift points. Rather, the computer shifts depending on how you are currently driving - the harder you hit the gas, the higher the RPM will be when the transmission finally shifts. It also seems that the computer factors in your previous driving habits when it shifts - if you usually drive aggressively, the transmission will shift at higher RPMs, even if you aren't accelerating that quickly at that specific time. This is part of what Infiniti calls Adaptive Shift Control.
One last note, have you driven using the Drive Sport (DS) mode? I have only used it during a test drive since my G is still in its break-in period, but that usually doesn't shift until the engine is near its redline.
Bottom line is that if you have an automatic, the seemingly high shift point shouldn't be anything to worry about.

For what its worth I put 80k miles on my G35 Coupe mostly driving in MM and never had any problems with the tranny. I did however change the fluid more often than recommended since I drove in MM a lot. Not to mention my '04 didn't have the Rev matcher like the '05+'s do.
