Motor Death and Re-Birth

Well a few of you guys know and some of you may not.....I was recently on my way back to Dallas from Houston.....3 and a half hours had gone by without incident and then....bam.....Huge lose of power and white smoke out the back. I shut off the GTR and coast to the shoulder. I sigh and call a tow truck....I pretty much knew I was toast. As the pictures below show, A valve in the #2 cylinder snapped in half and it fell into the combustion chamber and proceeded to go 10 types of crazy on my head and piston at the end of which it punched at hole in the piston and ended up in the oil pan.

A pretty motor shot with it out of the car:

SO.....the rebuild begins. First we got the block over to Endyn for a 40 overbore balance the bottom end, forged pistons, rods, Race bearings, ARP bolts all the way around. (that is still in the works)

THEN we worked on some supporting mods.....new ignition, new front differential, Ferrea stuff for the head, new gaskets, engine and transmission mounts.....TONs of oil modifications, new oil pump, AccumSump, oil restrictors for the head, custom head drain mod to the pan, etc. But here are some misc. pics:

Long Story Short it will be back on the road in a few weeks.

It has the Power FC and it really was a conservative tune and it was on low boost.....I think it was just bad luck.....

Thanks Moog I know you knew about it from other sites but I didn't inform the G guys.

I guess that's the price if playing with top end equipment is some times things go bad.

glad to see it hasn't discouraged you.

can't wait to see how the rebuild turns out!

Wow....those 'surprises' suck. They always seem to happen when you least expect to have to spend the $$.

Hopefully everything goes together smoothly with the rebuild.
