DFW Stereo & iPod kit PAC AAI-NIS2
Just to let you guys know something I could have benefited from regarding DFW Stereo in Grapevine;
I bought the PAC AAI-NIS2 for the iPod hookup from the local dealer on sale for $148. Seemed like a good deal as it was closer to 200 clams prior to the special.
Went to Tweeters in Grapevine to have it installed, they had quoted me about $150 to wire it all nice and pretty. As I am sure we all know, Tweeters is closing and the car install staff has been released. The manager at Tweeters did however recommend DFW Stereo to me.
Went to DFW stereo and they had it installed in less than an hour for only $65 in labor. I did buy a RCA to 3.3mm cable from them for $29.99 to complete the install.
Here is the kicker. He carries the same unit PAC AAI-NIS2 and sells it for $120 regular.
When I told him what I paid he said that for members of the DFW G35 Owners club he would go lower.
I wanted to share in case anyone is interested in saving a couple bucks.
By the way I am very happy with the install job and will return to them for any other enhancements.

I ended up ordering the USA Spec PA11-NIS for $119 shipped off eBay. Same concept as the PAC unit but with some additional features that really appealed to me.
As with most, installation requires removal of the radio and plugging it into the back of the stock radio. Instead of doing it myself I opted to exercise my factory warranty to replace my faulty stock radio that would lose one side of speakers when playing CD's. It never bothered me that much since I could bang the side of the center console and get them to come back on ... but regardless it was still faulty. I just asked the service writer at Grubbs to have the tech pop the wire in while he was back there and voila ... free install

Here's an example of one for pricing purposes if anyone else is interested in doing this:

I'm not sure about car audio labor per hour but I think that pricing is good at $65 per hour. I had my TVandNav2Go unit installed for $80-90 at our local Vision Car Audio shop in Lubbock that's a pretty big name place around our small town. That was about a 1-1.5 hour job if I recall correctly.

Not sure why no one did this previously, but you can get this thing for about $85 to $95 shipped on ebay.
The question is, would it be better to buy this and have a generic setup that you could use for multiple things, however not get the benefit of the true iPod kit that has the iPod hookup that will also charge the iPod itself...?
