I am a current IS300 owner and am now looking for a G35 coupe. I am deffinately getting a G within this month but I'm not very familiar with this car so I don't really know what to look for. I am going to buy a used one, but preferably new-ish. haha. Hoping to get G that's black inside and out.

Anyways, just saying hi to everyone and any help would be nice.

Welcome C8lyn! Tell us a little more about what you are looking for in your new G coupe ... we know you want black on black, what about transmission: 5AT or 6MT?

If you are looking at a 2003 or 2004 coupe, you should know that the 6MT comes standard with 18" wheels, Brembo brakes, and a Limited Slip Differential.

The 2005 model year added a stock radio that plays mp3's and deleted the in-dash tape player. Brembo brakes are no longer available in 2005 or newer models.

In 2006, the coupe received an engine overhaul and horsepower went from 280 to 298 (torque dropped however) in the 6MT model. I believe bluetooth connectivity was added into the radio controls as well.

Hope this helps in your search!

I'm not really looking for a 5AT or 6MT in particular... Just whatever comes my way thats in good condition for a good price. I would love a manual, but it's not a priority for me.

I'm not sure what year i want yet, but all of your info did help

I had an IS300 before the G35. There are a couple of things that hit me when I first go the car which may influence which year you end up getting.

1. For some reason the textured dash looks a bit cheap in the G. The painted center console can be scratched easily and is a pain to find a good touchup paint to match. If the interior is a careabout then definitely look for an '05 or '06. The IS300 interior just feels "cleaner" than the '03-'04 G. But the >'05 G interiors are much more acceptable.
2. The IS300 HIDs seemed to put out better light output even though they are also "reflector" HIDs similar to the '03-'05 G's. If you are looking for the same type of light output, then go for an '06 with projectors (or change out the old lights for new projectors for ~$800).
3. The manual mode in the 5AT G's really is not that great in the '03-'04. The e-shift in the IS300 seemed to be much quicker. I had a Teck grounding kit on my IS and it was great at shifting. Only complaint I had is that it never was able to go down to 1st gear. On the G, I've noticed that when you double down at 40mph-50mph to go from 4th to 2nd, it sometimes does not shift properly (depending on how much gas you put on it). Sometimes when you try to shift up, it does not and you hit the rev limiter. Also the manual shift using the shift stick takes some getting use to as opposed to the buttons on the steering wheel in the IS300. Now in the '05 Gs there was a marked improvement in the shifting, where if you double down it would shift every time (from 4th to 2nd in an on ramp situation). However, there is still a slight delay because it still seems to lag from 4th to 3rd, then makes a quick shift to 2nd. But it is a more consistent behavior. Seriously, the 5AT in the G is really the only real complaint I have about the car. The '07 sedan auto seems to shift a lot better. If you can help it I would really recommend getting 6MT. Otherwise you will need to anticipating and get use to shifting early.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I will be showing up for the next meet... and wont be showing up in my IS becauseeee...

I BOUGHT A G TODAY!

It is an 03 but has only 8,900 miles on it, has black interior and exterior, and has the complete sport package minus the navi but i think i am going to get one installed. i get to pick it up tomorrow.
IM SO EXCITED!!
i really wanted a newer year and a MT but this had just about everything i wanted and low mileage. And i will be putting mods on it - but prolly not before the meet... ya'll better show me a good crowd at this meet because everytime the local IS' tried to put one together, it would always be me and like 3 other people.

See you guys then!

Congrats C8lyn! That is helluva find for an '03 with only 8900 miles! Did it come with an extended warranty? The 03's should all be out of warranty by now.
