Exclamation Desperate for Advice...

Hello Forum, my car's mileage is about to turn to 3K and just yesterday I started hearing the strangest noise. The car has been babied for the most part so I found this noise odd. It is definately noticeable when initially started, cold start, and it sounds like a horrible rumbbling as I go through the gears (especially from first to second) and as the RPM's come down. Has anyone ever experienced this and have any advice for me? I have scheduled a dealer technician to look at it this afternoon but being that this is a new car, in every sense, I'm a little freaked out. I look forward to hearing your thoughts as you all are experienced owners of the G and I have only had my '06 for a couple of months now and until yesterday she was running great. Thanks!

Yeah I have never heard that problem described before. I know I had to have a heat sheild bent further away from my exhaust under the car because the pipe would hit the heat shield pretty frequently. Mostly noticable over bumpy roads but if I revved it in neutral it would hit agianst it also. Weird that it would be doing that as I had an aftermarket exhaust. Outside of that the only other items I have heard of to cause any vibration at all would be in the transmission (mounts or what have you), or the suspension. There are just so many things that could cause such a noise without more detail we would all be speculating.

Where is the noise coming from? Engine, exhaust, etc.

I should have been more detailed, the loud rattling thumbing sound comes from under the hood and is most noticeable when shifting from first to second...and if I had to guess it almost sounds like my flywheel is hitting something or my clutch is not disengaging properly.

I see......well, that changes things. Is the sound present only when the clutch is in or is it present pretty much all the time while the car is in motion? If the sound is present only when the clutch is depressed then it is likely a clutch/flywheel problem with the worst case scenario being it is the transmission itself (output shaft, or the like).
