Ram Air - hood scoop to stock air intake

A little extreme, since it involves cutting holes in your hood (actually, it's a bonnet) but this makes so much sense instead of routing a cold air intake - and it's way cheaper... and did I mention you get to cut holes in your car's hood!! 8)

My question to the forum: anyone done this, or anyone with advice?

Above is link to full explanation with pics.

In the VQ37VHR group in FB there is already threads in the way on this. Unlike the S2000 the G37 has a similar system in place that has holes where it gets air from the front grill.
Most people follow the cylindrical intake theory, showing that with a tune, intakes will deliver however many including myself believe in the factory boxes.
One guy has shown that at high speed and high rpm the system produces positive pressure already from factory.

If you look at my members ride thread you'll see I've started the process already on something like this. I used some 3.8 in tubing to increase the size of the feed to the OEM box and I can tell you the difference is there and I might be onto something.

In the article, the S2000 is benefiting from this due to a straighter patch to the outside along with the fact that he had a factory airbox.
In our cars the facotry boxes feed thorugh the rad support and for the most part have "semi direct feed" to the boxes. My theory was bigger feeds to these boxes from the front should yield better performance and it has.
My only issue is I need to buy a set of new boxes so I can make the box and snorkel as a one piece since it's difficult to get it sealed properly in a 2 piece form.

Yes, makes sense - so aim for the "ram air" from the front rather than thru the top.

Also easier to cut into the bumper than the hood... though harder to make it look good compared to hood scoops 8)

I've joined the fb group you mention, but do you have pics or templates for cutting into the bumper?

A using the factory holes and enlarging them there's no need for a template. There will also be no need to cut the bumper because the hoses can feed from the grill like the factory location. Check my thread so you can see what I am talking about.

The original press release for the V36 chassis mentioned that the air box design resulted in a 3HP gain at 60 MPH.
We already have ram air.
