Chassis Mount Wing Installation

If you're like me (and lost your mind) with your G then you are going to go "full racecar". Some may say, never go "full racecar", but you don't need that kind of negativity in your life so ignore them.

Part of the racecar path is DOWNFORCE! Shopping around for wings I noticed an alarming trend in trunk mounted wings. This is not my preference as they usually are not made for our cars and therefore give a "universal" fit. Also, I'm just not comfortable having a large piece of aero mounted to our somewhat thin trunks. At speed and continued use that could be hazardous.

The solution. Chassis mount wings! There are few companies that can provide these services, but the only pre-fabbed / easy install for the G37 out currently is produced by Street Faction. They are priced pretty competitively and I think it is a good deal for what you get.

So let's get into it.

STEP 1 : REMOVING YOUR REAR LIGHTS AND BUMPER

Take off the plastic cover and remove all the plastic retainer clips.

This will allow you access behind the lining to the lights. Disconnect your lights via the harness clips (white) and take off the three 8mm nuts. This is what holds the lights on and a couple of plastics clips. When everything is unplug/unscrewed start pulling the lights off. Pull the rubber gasket out too to take off the whole light assembly.

Underneath the lights are more plastics clips. Remove these along the top of the bumper line.

On the underside of the bumper there are two more plastic clips as well in the center area. Remove these.

While you're under there look for the 10mm screws holding the under sides of the bumper too. Remove these on each side.

The last screws holding the bumper on should be in the rear wheel wells. These are 10mm as well. Remove these. Now the bumper is held on by the clips on the wheel well/rear fender areas. Pull firmly and evenly to pop the bumper out of the clips. (Don't rush because you may break you bumper clips, trust me...)

With both sides unclipped the bumper is loose and you'll need to unplug the backup sensor harnesses (another take your time area) and license plate light. After that you're in the clear.

STEP 2 : REMOVING YOUR REAR BASH BAR

With the lights and bumper removed you have access to your OEM rear bash bar. Before you start taking it off remove the clips for the wiring harnesses.

There are a handful of bolts on each side to remove some are a little tight to reach but it can be done! I want to say these were 12mm.

STEP 3 : INSTALLING THE BASH BAR AND WING

I covered my exhaust for this and used some jack stands to assist. Reuse OEM hardware and attach the bash bar. Make sure it's centered correctly before tightening. (Also, if you plan on cutting and installing your rear bumper the bash bar will come off again so don't go crazy tightening)

I used electrical tape to ensure my wiring harnesses weren't dangling.

With it on, mount your wing with the provided hardware and tools.

STEP 4 : CUTTING YOUR BUMPER

I won't give a full walkthrough on this part because it's scary and I did not get it perfect. Street Faction has a good taping method to assist but it will require time and patience. Took a friend and I about three tries.

Thanks! It makes a huge difference. Took it for a couple of test runs. Once it gets up to speed (probably around 45mph) it gives great downforce.

Good question! No, but the whole unit can swing down if you take the top two mounting screws off. This would allow trunk access.

Looks good. Do they have one available for the sedan? Would this one fit? Not sure if there is a difference.
