DIY: Contrasting Shift Boot Stitching
Thank you. I think the issue I'm running into is the 2010 sedan AT is slightly different than most the instruction lists. There an extra piece which I believe is the finisher that seems to be eluding me. I'm pretty sure I just need to pull and get the pawns to release but I'm trying to verify before snapping everything because I'm using the wrong angle.
Or the issue could be that I'm a bit of a sissy and was afraid to snap things. Popped that piece off and got it done today. While I was at it I dremeled the shifter shaft to accept the M45 shifter **** and am thrilled with the final result.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Forgot to add my pic, excuse the mess. I cleaned up later
Two years ago, I saw what the OP here did and wanted to do the same with the shifter boot in my 6MT, with white stitching against the brown leather. Actually, it's not leather... seems to be vinyl. But anyway... Couldn't pursue it, because I couldn't get the **** off.
One year ago, I got the **** off and replaced it with a solid titanium tear-drop **** from LatheWerks. Love this ****.
And here I am two year later, just now remembering this idea because of a new boot that Lego Maniac purchased from Redline Goods.
So this evening, I took the boot trim off the car so that I could get the leather (vinyl, LOL) in my hands, and I'm realizing I don't know how to sew a double-stitch by hand the way a sewing machine would. No offense intended to Redpit, because he deserves credit for experimenting, but his simple straight-stitch looks kind of awkward and ill-fitting over the OEM threads. This wasn't something I had realized until I tried it myself.
This is how my shifter area looks right now (below). I'd like it if the stitching were white.
