Finally decided to take this spring off. One of best thing Ive done with this car yet. Better feel for the engagement and shifting is definitely smoother with this. Process was easy, using needle nose pliers. Debating if i want to place the spring back with softer one. The pedal play isn't significant, or too noticeable, so might just leave that off. A must Mod for MT Gs out there!

Can you guys define the pedal play everyone is talking about? Just when I am just getting used to the clutch, I read this thread and makes me think if its all worth it. I definitely would like to lower the engagement but as Ive read earlier that it does not do that.

From what I noticed after taking off the spring, when you rest your foot on the pedal you can kind of depress it couple of mm, and it feels little loose, without the tension that spring provided. But I don't even think it's even noticeable if you never heard about it, so it isn't even significant IMO.

i dont understand all this talk about "free play"
there is supposed to be a few mm of free play, thats normal with every car

guys if you decide to put in a softer spring .. the play is minimized even more, since there is a spring providing tension... but the clutch is still soft and no one should be resting their feet on the clutch pedal anyway.. so, find a softer spring and enjoy the riches of both sides

Exactly what I did, I went to virgils and made them cut a softer spring the same size as the oem, now it doesn't play AS much (still has a bit of play tho) but the clutch feels exactly the same as without a spring.

hey guys sorry for the late reply.. the way i did it was to take the factory spring with me to ACE hardware ( small hardware shop) compared the springs..and picked the one that closely matched with the factory one..

Just did this mod today. It's now super smooth and easy in 1st & 2nd.

Damn, I just found this thread. Just got my used G a couple weeks ago and have been trying to master the shifting but the clutch just has no "feel" to it, this sounds like exactly what I need to try. Gonna remove the spring tomorrow when I'm not drunk
