Waxing

What does wax do exactly? I know I could find this answer online but I would like to get some feed on this. Over the weekend I did a multi stage detail job on my own. First I went and got a car wash as I don't have access to a water supply at the house. Then I clay bared my car, used swirlX 2.0 by megiaurs, followed by ultimate polish, and topped it all off with a wax (all by the same brand.) I gotta say I'm really happy with the outcome, the 8 hours of work was well payed off. I read online that doing it by hand won't get the results you are looking for, but not in my case. The only thing I can't figure out is why last night when it rain the rain water stayed on my car? They were all pebble like drops but they were still on my car. From what I read people say your car is suppose to repel the rain drops and your car is suppose to be dry. Am I just wishing too much from the wax? Or did I just do a bad job waxing my car?

Thanks for posting that Jeremy! I'd have to say that is the best, last-word, definitive auto detailing compendium that I've seen in one place!
