Hood edge scratch

Hi. I was cleaning around the hood under the wipers and decided to open the hood with the wipers up. Put a huge 2 inch scratch on the edge. Not sure what I was thinking. It looks like the hood is aluminum. Is that true? To fix this should I get a touch up pen with clearcoat?Does this work? Thanks for the help guys.

Ouch! I did that once with my old BMW but fortunately it ended up with only a bout 1/4" scratch on the edge. I'd say just clean it up a bit and touch up with basecoat. It's basically impossible to do a perfect fix with touchup, especially on the edge like that, so my main concern would be to prevent it from rusting and make it look better. Any photos of the damage?

Thanks Ivan! I will post some before / after photos on how to do this type of repair for people who forget to put down their wipers. I think I can get it pretty good on the edge. The only concern is getting it smooth afterwards. Might take some *very* light wetsanding and whatnot. It's maybe about 1" long. I already picked up the touchup pen from the dealer that includes clearcoat.

Best of luck Jason. Take some photos and record your process, I'm sure we can all learn something from it, good or bad .
