Posted in the G37 Sedan forum. Some strange spots have recently popped up all over my hood and roof. Any idea what it is and how to get rid of it?

Normal buffing will not remove. . You will need to wetsand with 2000 to gently remove then buff finish. I've seen it at work (bodyshop) before

 

Wet sanding sounds a lot better than spraying clear or worse. These spots were not here when I purchased the car a year ago and I didn't notice until a month or so ago --- after a local carwash did a hand wax. I watched the guy do it - wax on / wax off by hand so I don't think that is the root cause but maybe it caused something else? It was the first wax since I purchased the car.

Any idea what caused this so I don't let it happen again? This car is garage kept during the night and day. Only sees about 1.5 hrs of sunlight per day in the summer. Almost NONE in the winter.

Something like plastic sheeting at some point was laying on the finish and got baked into the finish.. If its buffed off it will disappear for awhile until that compound has been removed.. Aka by claybar etc.. You need to have someone 2000 grit those spots and buff back to gloss. It's the only way to remove it completely. Seen it before
