spots in paint

hey guys need some help. i decided to clay bar my car for the first time ever last week and i think i used too much quick detailer and not all of it got wiped off and i drove round like that for about a few days before i got to wash my car. now i noticed i have lil spots in the paint. i tried reclaying today and they wont come off. any ideas on how to fix this should i invest in one of those meguiars DA polishers and try to polish it out or should i just send my car in for a cut polish from professional

What do the spots look like? Did you seal and/or wax the car after you clayed it? Sounds like your paint was exposed so all kind of crap got stuck to it. I would just try to clay it again, try same clay bar and go to more coarse one if it does not help. Quick detailer should not hurt, just wipe it off completely when you are done.

If it does not help and you are not comfortable with a buffer just take it to a detail shop.

I would recommend to wash it again with paintwork cleanser (Chemical Guys Citrus wash), clay as needed, seal and wax. Sure this will take some time, but you can do this in one day.

Clay may not remove the water spots if etched in. Could also be marring from the clay itself. You may need to polish. At the least, a finishing polish is usually a good idea after claying anyway as there will usually be micro marring from the claying process

As a side note, pics may help to ensure you're getting the proper answer. All replies are just guesses without being able to see the condition.

When claying you have to clay in cool and in the shade, you have to keep the surface super moist so there is no friction between the paint and the clay. As for applying to much quik detailer that was never the case for me. I just rinse it off thoroughly afterwards. I think those water spots thing might have been due to the detailer sitting on the paint for too long and drying...but I don't know what steps you did to clay the car..

I'm pretty **** about washing my car a certain way some say it's OCD but whatever. I start by presoaking the car with a foam gun and wait about a minute or so for it to loosen up the dirt, then rinse it off and soak it again and slowly start to clean the car off with a microfiber scrub after that rinse then I use a wash and wax to give it another scrub to make sure I got everything, then rinse and after that I let the car sit there wet, and that's when I break out the clay, I give wet the clay and give the paint a couple sprays and start claying, but I rinse off the detailer section after section to prevent drying. After claying one last scrub before rinse and drying...sounds like I'm obsessed but hey the car looks super shiny afterwards...

You clay every single time you wash? I don't think there's a such thing as using too muh QD when claying. Did you wash before you started using clay bar?

nope usually I only clay when i run my hand through the cars paint after I washed it and feel any bumps on there. If there is then I start claying. YES wash the car with wash and wax perferably a good brand before claying or else your're going to leave swirls on the paint or even scratch the paint. Went to a Meguiars conference thing and sat through a talk about how to use their products..
