Chips on Hood

Today, after washing my car, I was horrified to find 3 chips on the passenger side of the hood, pretty close to the windshield. I do not know how it happened as I am used to seeing many little chips on the bumper where they normally appear.

I used some touch up paint by brushing it on to try and correct it but it turned out lighter than the color of the hood. I had used the pen portion of the touch paint another time on my rear bumper and it actually came out pretty good. This time I initially tried the pen portion of the bottle but no paint was coming out so I reverted to the brush.

Because I was not satified I used Meguiars Scratch X by hand to try and remove the touch up paint but it didn't do anything. So I preceeded to clay bar the area and put some Zaino on it until I determined what the best way to correct it would be.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried Langka on another car but wasn't satisfied. I have also heard good things about Dr Colorchip; would this be the way to go or does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks

Just noticed the exact same thing on my G. Along with about 4 hair like ones towrds the front. Must have been a rock that skipped over the hood. Put an order for dr. Colorchip will report back results.

You need to touch it up very well, filling in the chip as completely as possible. Then wet sand the repair to smooth out the glob of paint build up you are bound to have. Then polish out the sanding marks. You'll barely be able to tell it was repaired.

Thanks guys. I've already placed an order for a Dr Colorchip kit and will give that a shot. Now that I think about it, as I was driving one day I did hear a loud smack. Thinking that a rock hit the windshield I surveyed it looking for a crack. When I found none I felt OK. So it looks like it hit the hood not the glass.

After you fix it, consider putting a clear bra on. The second day I owned my car I put one on...covered the entire hood, L&R front qtr panels back to the doors, the top a pillars, mirrors, lights, and the entire front end. I cannot handle all them darn chips!
Good luck with the repair.

Dr. Colorchip arrived pretty fast. I tried it and so far well it does what it says which is cover the chip. It does not repair it or fill it just paints over it. Thats what everyone says about the product but seeing it explains it best.

It just takes your eye away from the white spot a chip would leave. Report what your thoughts HB4LTHR are as you have the same color car as me.

My kit hasn't arrived but will post results as soon as I do it. In the mean time post pics of your work as well.
