What polish/pads do you guys use?

Just picked up an 08 g37s last night. Took it home and examined the paint under bright LED lights. I was disgusted. Car looks like it was washed with sand filled towels. i have never see paint so badly swirled up.

Ill have pics coming soon as I am detailing her this weekend. It will probably take me ten hours at the very least.

Epic detailing thread coming soon with lots of before and afters...

Please let me know of detailing products that have worked for you guys in the past. The color of the car is black.

Wish me luck...

Eugene

In short, I have Meguiars and Menzerna polishes and have a Black G37 also. Heavy cut is M105, Light cut/polish is M205, final polish is PO85RD, and light cut is Power Finish and lake county pads. I just ordered the Hydro tech pads as Ive read they work very well with the M105/205 and keep more polish on the surface of the pad.

I've always used Lake Country pads...never really tried anything else though because they are so commonplace. I will tell you I want to try some of those purple wool pads. None of the cars I do are badly damaged enough to need that cutting power...but sounds like fun.

I'm personally a fan of Menzerna polishes. SIP is one of the most diverse polishes I've ever used. On anything but black(and even close here) it can be a one step medium cutting polish.

I got the tangerine hydro tech pad and couldn't be happier. Unless your car is REALLY bad, you shouldn't need more than that color pad.

I've got some Pinnacle swirl remover that seems to do the job well (I'll replace it with a different brand when it's gone), and use PO85RD for final polishing.

I use a Cyclo Dual Orbital. So dual 4" pads, usually Cyclo or Lake Country.

Polishes and pads depends on condition of the paint. My fav polishes right now are (in no particular order): M105/M205/SSR2.5/Menzerna FPII/Menzerna SIP/Menzerna Power Finish.

Waxes/Sealants/Glazes: CG Pete's '53/CG 50/50/Migliore Original and Primo/Do Do Supernatural/Rainforest Rub/Jetseal 109/CG Extreme EZ Clean Glaze w/Acrylic Shine II

Looking forward to your results thread and good luck

Usually the key to polish and pad combinations is pairing the proper polish combo with a similar level pad combo depending on the level of cut you are looking for. What I mean by that is you don't want to use M105 with an aggressive yellow pad and then follow up with M205 with a black finishing pad. While the polishes may be designed as a 2 step combo, the difference between pads is too great and will leave behind marring or holograms or hazing.

Here are some popular pad combinations for 2 step polishing along with some popular 2 step combos (going from most cut to least cut in both lists):

Cyan
& Tangerine pads
Orange & White pads
Green & Black pads

M105 & M205
Menzerna SIP & PO106FA
Menzerna Power Finish & PO85RD

While that's certainly not the end all be all, those are definitely some proven combinations. One of my favorites on soft Infiniti paint is Power Finish followed by PO85RD if the imperfections aren't too deep. Also remember, the smaller the pad you use the more cut and control you'll get when using a random orbital buffer, I wouldn't recommend larger than 5.5" pads for real messed up paint.

Hope this helps.
