I'll take some before and after pics later.
The difference is incredible, and the flourescent lights make it much easier to see everything.
On the other hand, it makes it much easier to see all the spiderwebbing and other light scratches on my black paint. This might accelerate my plan to get a random orbital
Anyone else install some custom lights in their garage for detailing purposes?

I have installed (12) 4' fluorescents. That helps with general illumination, but I still use the halogens to see finish correction, the fluorescent bulbs don't do a great job of that. I use 2 large 1500 watt halogens on a stand and 2 smaller 500 watt portables. I am planning to get a hand held light like this one to see how well it works since the big halogens are so hot.

No, get yourself a Flex. I have both and the Flex will make you put the PC on the shelf.

Yeah, by no means do I expect the ceiling lights to be all I need. They have made a tremendous difference in general lighting though. The camera at the same settings tended to make the incandescent brighter than it was. Adjusted in photoshop to what I perceived it to be.

I actually used the electric start ballasts in my lights and that helps quite a bit. You can use the natural light bulbs and they do not make that annoying buzzing sound. They are actually also good at showing some very minor imperfections when detailing. Below is a link to a couple garage pictures. My house is for sale and pics number 23 and 24 are what I was referring to.

+ 1. My 2 car is barely a 1 car because of tools, work table, and stuff. I'd give my left nut to have that much room to work on the car.
Thanks. I actually have a shed that matches my house where I keep my wood working tools, yard equip, etc. I believe the garage is for working on things that belong in a garage. I do actually keep my golf clubs and tennis stringer in there as well, but no junk. I fully insulated it and added a unit that heats and cools the space a few years ago ad I have always have a speakers in the ceiling and a tv. It is the only way to work.
