New 6MT with lots of swirls..

Just got my new 6MT yesterday and the dealer delivered the car which was probably washed by a monkey with a diaper used to sit around in the zoo. Lots of swirls.

Ok, what is the first step. Car is new, and I want to seal and wax it but try to avoid harsh polishes as much as possible. Any polishes that can be used by hand? How should I start?

Thanks.

oh ya, anyone know any good detailers in Montreal?

If your car is brand new, I would have the dealership pay to have your car professionally detailed. Get them to put your paint under a halogen lamp and tell them that the paint condition ss not acceptable since it's brand new. Do not let them attempt to fix as they will just make it worse. Tell them you want it detailed by a professional at THEIR cost.

Id say this is definitely a worthwhile attempt and if the dealership u purchased your car from is reputable and high in customer service, they should really have no problem doing that for you.

Well, I wouldn't bet that this dealer will help. It's both a Nissan and Infiniti service, and my guess is that they cut corners. We'll see.

^ I can provide you with sound detailing advice to get rid of the paint imperfections yourself (although it won't be by hand), but your dealership should really be looking after this for you. It's totally unacceptable to purchase a brand new car with swirls and scratches all over it.

Well, at lunch I dropped by a local detailing shop and asked their opinion. They said it looked like a 4-5 month old car that was washed less than optimally. They also said, that they would only do a polish on it, no compound, since it should be fine with that.
So I then went to the dealer, got the boss of infinity outside (lots of sun!!) and he said this wasn't acceptable on a 50k car. He told me they would compound it, at which point I said, that's not appropriate but he offered me to talk to the PDI department (they deal with lexus too) and if I felt comfortable, then they would do the work to make it look like showroom.
He also said, if I wasn't happy with my answers, he would pay any bill I had from a detailing shop of my choice. The shop I went to, quoted me $125 for a polish.
SO hopefully I will be happy once again!

now that's the way to handle the situation

too many people go back and just yell at someone and lose their head and end up more pissed off b/c the dealers get put off by it...+1 for you!

Would you mind taking some photos and posting them here of it's current condition and also what it looks like after it's corrected?

IMO, I would take their offer and take your G to a professional detailer of your choice. Personally, I would NEVER let the dealership do the paint correction.

Like BB mentioned, pics of before and after would be good.

I'll try to get the pics tomorrow.
Question: What is the dealer likely to do? Use "Nissan" rubbing compound with old rags or a good quality polishing agent? Or just a glaze trying to hide it?

This dealer is actually part of a complex of Nissan, Infinity, Toyota and Lexus. I think the lexus part does the PDI. He tells me all of the showroom cars are done by them and mine should be the same. Is this already too late? Has the damage been done? A local detailer says that all should come out with a light polish.

I still have an option: He is willing to pay for a fix at a place of my choice. If this occurs, I will take the car to an exclusive shop (Auto Etcetera in Montreal) that caters to owners of Austin Martins, Langourgini's and other cars like this. They will charge $475 for a "4 part wax" job with no paint repair.

That's the good thing about owning a Sentra...you don't give a damn what happens!

Dealerships are not experienced professional detailers. If they were, your G wouldn't be in the condition that it is coming off the showroom floor. So for them to try and correct your paint, I personally think you will not be satisfied with the results. It's hard to say what tools/products they will be using, but I personally wouldn't chance it. Leave it to professionals that do this everyday and know what they are doing (especially since the dealership has offered).

On the positive side, chances are all you need is a light cutting polish applied by machine......which is a straight forward process for a professional. Pics will confirm that. Keep us posted how you make out.

Btw, when you take pics tomorrow try to take them in direct sunlight (if possible) or under a halogen light.

Do not let the dealership themselves "detail" it. They are such a joke it not even funny.
