[experiment] Determining if the self healing paint could fix this...

I own my 2009 Liquid Metal Grey G37x Coupe for just 3 and a half month. Yesterday night I discovered a SEVEN INCHES scratch on the top left hand side of the hood [heart broken...].

This morning I put my car under the sun and have it shined for a day or so. Hopefully the scratch will go away by itself... but honestly.. I don't have too much hope about it .

yeah...i hope it helps but ive read over and over again that the self healing paint will only help with very minor damage like swirl marks from washing etc...

Do you know what I could do to remove these type of scratches? I am in Toronto, is there any one could give me a hand?

Can you feel the scratch? Is paint missing?

You can try buffing it out, get it professionally detailed.

I doubt the "self healing" paint actually does any "self healing" since I've detailed 2 G's with it already and they were in just a bad condition as the 08's.

Have any pics of the scratch? How deep is it? Like bruin said above you will probably have to buff it out, maybe more depending on how deep it is.

I can feel the scratch using finger tip, the scratch area is rough. It is not paint missing, but I can tell the upper layer is damaged.

if that's the case, then it must be polished, which if i'm not mistaken, will remove the self healing top coat.

[Just an update]

I figured out that the very tiny scratches such as swirls (Very fine one) can be healed by itself.
E.G. My coworker tried to help me out to remove the scratch by his bare hand @_@” and unfortunately
His hand rubbed the paint a bit hard, and cause some very tiny scratches (heart shattered), however,
These very fine scratches are gone after the shine from sun

Then, I took my car back to the dealer, the nice salesperson helped me out by doing
Some polish on it, it didn’t remove the scratch fully, but the scratch itself is not as obvious.

If the scratch does not penetrate the clear coat, it will eventually heal itself. Obviously, the smaller the scratch, the faster it'll heal.

Keep in mind the clear coat only self-heals for about 3 years, and will get slower and slower as the car ages.

Also, if you ever need your G professionally detailed I have a couple of personal recommendations that I could pass along to you that are in the GTA.
