So its finals time here in old Saskatoon and Ive been a hermit in my condo since sunday. I havnt started my car since sunday and it has been pretty windy and cold ( -28 to -36 C) I havnt plugged it in bc my extension cord is three hrs away and I dont wana buy another 30ft one cuz im a poor student. I have a Final on saturday morning and need to go grocery shopping before then.

How should I go about starting the car? Do i try and start it without it being plugged in and sitting since sunday (4 days ago)?

Oh, hmm. I dunno I've never had any personal experience with temps that low. I think you only risk damaging something if you start it up and drive on it hard without letting it properly warming up first.

Man..those are polar conditions...

I'd say wait for the warmest part of the day (if you even have days anymore)...then try to start the engine.

If you want to be extra safe then pour some motor oil into the filler hole just before starting so that the valves have some oil if not any.

Most importantly, you need to wait until the engine warms up before riding off. I assume that all your fluids have anti-freeze.

np...hopefully the starting operation will work...Batteries tend to lose their charge quickly in extreme cold.

You're a starving student with a loaded G and can't afford a cheap extension from Canadian Tire? Then what do you expect this forum to do? Tell you that the block will not shatter into a million pieces at those temps?

Put on your 3 layers of woolies and go try to start it. At those temps if it cranks over and fires you'll be lucky.
