fix scratch on headlights

so i parked my car in a parking lot came back a few hours later and someone hit my front car, luckily i had a clear bra install which absorbed most of the damage without touching the paint on my car, so all i had to replace was the clear bra, the only problem was that on my headlights it looked like it got through the clearbra and scratched the housing, its above an inch in length and not that deep but deep enough you can feel it when you stroke your fingers on it.

my question has anyone been able to get hairline scratches not swirls out of the housing, anyone know any methods of doing so, i dont want to pay for a new headlight (quote from dealer $1300 for the housing alone, $1800 for a new headlight) so please help.

thanks in advance, i will try to get some pictures up but have to get my camera from my cousin

try using blue magic, depending on the scratch deepness this might help. If not, you may have to sand it down a bit yourself with fine sandpaper, and then use blue magic. Just what I can think at the moment, someone will most likely have a better solution.

This is an excerpt from a previous thread I made. Although, I don't know if I would try something this aggressive on a new car. If your only other option is buying a new headlight, fine. The reason I make the comment is that when you wet sand a headlight you remove any protective coating on the lens.

I picked up the new toy. There were a few things I wanted to address, namely the headlights and front bumper.

Headlights process:

-Wetsand with 2000 unigrit sandpaper.
-Compound with Optimum Compound via LC 4" yellow pad.
-Polished with PlasX by hand

Before:

After Wetsanding:

I use Mothers Aluminum wheel polish and it works like a charm ! Some Jack@$$ scratched my taillight when I was parked at my son's football practice... looked more like they wet sanded my taillight (FCKN H8TRs) but some mothers and alil elbow grease and it was out and looked shiny again ! Good Luck !

Whats your insurance deductible? Might want to call them and report it and if you have a low deductible, just pay it and get a new headlight. They also should have paid for the new clear bra if it was damaged.
