PC and P0106ff

So today I tried using my new PC7242 with m p0106ff and I tried polishing the hood. I washed, dried, clay bared, and polished. I used the white pad (6 inch) and used proper procedure to polish the car. I used spd 5.5-6 to polish most of the time but I didnt make much of a difference. I removed about 70 percent of swirls but the last 30 percent are really making the paint look bad. I did 2 coats of polish. Should I try using the orange cutting pad or am I not using a strong enough polish. I understand the po106ff is a weak polish.

try it with an orange pad and don't be affraid to put a little pressure behind it.

if that doesn't remove the rest of the swirls, then you'll need to move up to a more aggressive polish.

106FF is a finishing polish and is meant to be used with a finishing pad to jewel the surface and increase gloss. Step up to a stronger polish.

I got up to 80 percent of swirl out on the hood with an orange pad but I do need a stronger polish. I was planning on ordering it from DI but it will take 7days to come in.

Anyone know of a detail supply shop in the Los Angeles area?

Agreed... You'll likely need to step up to Menzerna SIP (Super Intensive Polish) to remove the remaining swirls.

0106FF, which is my favorite polish, offers light to medium cutting power. Depending on the severity of your paint of course will determine if 0106FF has enough cutting power to remove all of your paint imperfections. Like Finagle already suggested, try it with an orange pad first and if it doesn't remove the remaining paint imperfections you'll need to step up to a more agressive polish.

Also, you might want to take a look at this thread to become familiar with Menzerna's polishes and their cutting power.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Since no one has mentioned it, I would also suggest stepping down to a 4" or 5.5" pad. This greatly enhances the cutting power with the PC. I use the 4" pads on all my details, personally.

^ Excellent advice Don, that completely slipped my mind. It may take a little longer with 4" pads, but the cutting power between a 4" pad vs. a 6" pad is extremely noticeable. All I use is 4" pads myself.
