An easy guide to become a novice detailer?

Hey fellas,

Went through a few of the threads and it just seems to be too much info and too much products for me, being a newbie to this whole car detailing thing.

What I have is a BO G37S with minor swirlies.

What I need is a way to stop using dealer car washes and do it myself, thus minimizing swirly action.

What I don't know is how to do it.

---

So, if someone can just explain to me the general principle of cleaning (exterior) a car properly, and which products (just the basics, nothing too fancy) to use and where to buy them (because I went to Auto Zone today and got even more confused).... I would (and I'm sure other novices would also) appreciate it.

You guys can even dumb it down for us, that would be great - like a wax does this, a polish does this, your clearcoat will be ruined if... etc...

Also post a good place to buy these things so I can go online and purchase them.

Thanks!
J

Products

Please don't waste your money on off the counter products at Auto Zone and Walmart. I recently made the change to use strictly high end products from Detail Image. The results are amazing and the performance are far beyond OTC products.

Products you can use for your Exterior are:

Soap : CG Citrus Wash & Gloss

Wash Mitt : Lake Country Ulti-Mit

Wheel Brush : E-Z Detail Brush

Drying Towel : Waffle Weave Drying Towel

Wax : P21S Concours

Tire Shine : PBW's Bold n' Bright

Wheel Sealant : PBW's Wheel Sealant

Thats my list of supplies. Hope it helps!

I buy almost everything I use at Detailed Image. Competitive pricing, George (owner) is on this forum a lot giving advice, opinions, and tips, and their customer service is excellent. He also offers us a forum discount code for 10% off most items: 10OFFG37.

I agree. Detailed Image is the best place to get your products. They even have discount codes for us and they have an everyday special on a single item. You should register on their site to get an everyday email newsletter to what they have for the special.
