i live in toronto and i have a touch free car wash right across where i live. its hard to stay away especially when you can get a wash for 10 bucks !
anyways, i do hand wash when the weather permits, in the winter, i dont have a choice.

Talking My Method (for a quicky wash)

I take a micro fiber mitt, A dish soap bottle of diluted car wash (1/4-3/4 H20 to soap) and a can of Eagle One (spray can) foam wheel cleaner along with a a big zip lock bag for the wet mitt to the local "one armed bandit "coin operated spray car wash.

Once there I hit the wheels first "lightly" with cool water to help cool them down and then proceed to rinse the car down. when done with that, I soap her down with the wetted mitt adding soap to the mitt as I go(rinsing it in between). After rinsing the body on to the wheels as they are cool by then.

Once I ring out the mitt and put it away in the bag, I immediately hit the freeway for a quick joy ride and a blow dry!

When I get back to the house I clean the windows and wipe the body down with a polishing towel.

Total time 45-50 minutes including a quick ride to boot!

It may sound like a little work but its way better then seeing the damage the drive thru's do to your paint the first time you notice when the sun is just right!

+1^^!! Make sure there's no rail!!

And one more thing to note: LOCK YOUR FUEL DOOR!! Don't ask, just believe me when I say that you might regret it if your fuel door isn't locked and the high-pressure nozzles blow it 40ft across the parking lot.

I wouldn't do it either. There are car washes around where I live that have actual people washing them. It'd be a lot better if you can find one of those.

^^ I have to respectfully disagree with that!! A lot of those "handwash" carwashes use the same wash mitts throughout the whole day, and don't change out the water between each car. There's a good chance that the mitt washing your car washed 8 or 9 cars before yours, and came from the soap bucket that washed all those cars as well. Not to mention how many times the minimum-wage laborer may have dropped the mitt on the ground, only to pick it back up and swirl it around on your hood.

I would much rather allow some high-pressure nozzles to spray pure water and soap on my car than have some high-school kid on summer break grind dirt and little pebbles from the parking lot into my paint. Just my opinion!!

That sounds like a costly mistake. I'm definitely staying away from that. Thx for the heads up.

I will be ornery and disagree BUT only because I have had the car Diamonbrited - not sure if you weird ones on the american side of the pond (jokin!) have this product but it's awesome.

I actually swrved to miss someone the other day doing around a 100 k's an hour and clunked the back fender against the rubber bumper of an SUV pretty damn hard. We both stopped and checked - he had some white stuff damage and I couldn't believe not a freakin scratch - best investment I ever made.

if you want to keep the car in showroom shine do the Diamondbrite.

Oh - and here your car gets filthy in less than a week so I have auto'd once since I got the car - good as new - no paint swirls.

Maybe I should start franchising this stuff!

Thats a silly question to ask all the "self wash" snobs on this board. Unfortunately some people don't have unlimited time to hand wash and polish our cars every day like others. I say its just a car, not the Sistene Chapel!

I wouldn't use a laser wash due to the harsh chemicals they use.
