new car

i just got my new g37 coupe today.... i was wondering should i detail it and wash it now or wait till it gets dirty. It looks clean now but idk what the dealership does when it cleans new cars. Also does anyone know how much it would cost if i got my eterior proffesionally detailed? and does it make sense to detail yourself or leave it to the pros?

It's best to detail it yourself. In the long run you will save yourself a lot of money and end up with a skill for a lifetime.

I'm a site sponsor here, we carry a very effective line of luxury car care products. You can click my signature below for our products. As always, feel free to send me a PM with additional questions.

^+1 for doing it yourself. Like Don stated, learning to do it yourself will give you a skill for life that is priceless IMO. Not only will doing it yourself be much cheaper in the long run, it's also very gratifying doing it yourself. Getting it detailed by a credible professional will cost up to $400.

Welcome to the forum. If you are anything like me and very picky about your new baby, you will be horrified when you take a very close look and see that the "detail" that the dealer did to your car left a ton of light scratches and swirl marks. It is especially evident on a black car much more so than LP, IP, or the other lighter colors.

Depending on where you live, a quality detail from a real professional may run anywhere for $175 to $450 depending on your market and what you have done. Being as **** as I am about your car's appearance and care, you'd be better served buying your own equipment and materials and doing it yourself. Nobody will take care of her like you will and you will save yourself thousands of dollars over the years if you are a person who keeps the car maintained regularly. I just spent about $500 on a random orbital polisher and the right polishes, glaze, sealant, wax, cleaners and accessories to do it myself the right way. It sounds like a lot of money, but I have enough product to completely detail the car and maintain it regularly for the next couple of years. Check out the "Ask a Professional Detailer" thread in the stickies for good advice by guys like Garnet Canuck. George at Detailed Image, and Don at Migliore. Good luck!
