I'm pretty much a newbie...Please help!

So, the G is going to be my first car! I'm picking it up within the next 2 weeks (it's in my garage at home, it was purchased AFTER I came back to school for classes/research), and I'm pretty much a big newbie at this whole car detailing thing. I've been reading through the numerous threads here, and am pretty much overwhelmed with all the information that's here. I don't know where to start!

Sealants? wax? glaze? I'm utterly confused by all these terms and what they all do. All I've known to this point is using a bucket of water and soap and cleaning the car, sad I know. Any tips on where I should get started and what I should be doing? At home, we used old towels and hand soap to clean our cars, but obviously for the car enthusiast, we need more than that!

I recently just learned about using the microfiber towels and what not... but I'm a complete idiot on this subject! Please help!

I tell you what, Aliiin... Give me a few days and I'm going to put together a quick "Detailing for Newbies" frequently asked questions and I'll get it stickied. I'll put the first draft together and send it to Shane (Garnet Canuck) for his feedback and additions... After that we should have a good overall FAQ. It can be evolving as well.

Until then, I'd recommmend you check out the threads stickied in the detailing section. They have all the information you could ever want to know.

Good stuff Brian, I am looking forward to checking it out.

OP, in the meantime if you want to get a good understanding of what sealants, glazes, waxes, etc are you should check out the thread below.
