First "major" ding

Well, I was pretty bummed to discover last week that I have my first "major" ding (relatively speaking) in my red G37. It's in an awfully weird place -- right above the gas cap -- a circular ding about a millimeter in diameter but all the way down to the metal, right on the "edge" of the gas cap indention. And no, I didn't hit it with the nozzle at the gas pump (for those of you who assumed that immediately!). I presume it was an errant rock on the freeway.

My Atlanta dealer was actually pretty helpful, though I was the FIRST unlucky person to ever have to order the 2008 red touch up paint. It took two days and cost 12 bucks. Knowing that I'm generally not good with things like paint, I shuttled it over to a nearby collision center (that Infiniti recommended highly) and they've actually offered to spend a day on it (a layer at a time, so they said, slowly), gratis. Trust me, they'll get my future business (God forbid I need it).

Once done, I'll post an after-shot close up on the job. With a little luck, it will be a good example of how to use touch-up paint to finish a bone-deep scar with a tiny hairline fracture in the surrounding paint. We shall see; stay tuned.

How much would it cost to fix that ding? I just got my first ding this past Friday. The person even tried to rub it with his/her finger on it to see if the paint will come off. Pretty bummed but its only about a nickel's size and you could only see it from an angle.

What's the proper way to go about it? Can the dealership really fix it without mismatching your paint?

I have a little ding above my driver's door hand. It is only a few millimeters of paint ding, then a small dent about a dime size. Anyone have a ballpark # I should pay to get that fixed.

I'll try to take a picture tonight. Stupid SUV doors!

yesterday I took my mom and my wife to eat outside (Mom's day), when I arrived to teh Restaurant there was just 1 empty slot, as soon as I parked I had a weird feeling, don't ask me why?, I saw the car to my right and I noticed that it was in bad conditions, the feeling got worst, problem wa sthat my wife and mom were hungry so I didn't want to bother them telling that I wanted to park in other place because I was afraid to have a ding or dent, I thought, I can't be like this because then I was going to afraid all the time to take a ride.

Well, to make the long story short, We finished I went outside and teh first thing I looked was the right side, guess what?, there was this huge dent right besides the gas cap. I haven't recovered yet, so just follow your instincts guys, next time, theycan be starving and they will need to wait until I find another empty slot.

Well, in my case I just bought for $10 this dent/ding remover from Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=350057640153 hoping that it pops it up, then I have my OEM touch up paint ready just in case.

Atlanta 37: please post pics. I want to see how well the touch up paint is. I have a red G as well and I had them order me the touch up paint (none in stock -guess no one here has the red G or it is still considered a new car) But I am afraid to use it...knowing me I will just make it worse.

Most reputable places charge $100 per panel here in Houston. I have two slight creases that need to get removed. Luckily I purchased the dent protection through Infiniti.

I had it on my last G and it was a life savor. I probably used the insurance 10 times so it really paid for itself.
