i had the same problem, all you need to do is go to any car wash and ask them to clay and wax it. or you can do it yourself with detail products at any local auto store.

is it just a fine layer of adhesive residue? I'd try clay baring it myself first ($20).

I waxed the trunk lid myself and after a week the shadow from where the letters were disappeared, i think it just takes a little oxidation for the lettering to go away.
