wash/wax

So this is my first black car...and I'm wondering what to use to wash/wax it?

In my old car which was also a darker color I used meguires to wash and wax and I loved it. What do you guys use? Should I stick with Meguires or is there something better out there for black cars?

Start reading some of the threads in this section, namely the "Ask a Professional Detailer" thread that is stickied. That will give you tons of great information.

Mine's black too. It's a bit pricey but Zaino products are well worth the $$$. Wash the car with Dawn to strip off any wax that may be on the car. Use a claybar to clean off any rail dust or other contaminants and prepare the clearcoat for wax, repeat wash but not with Dawn this time, then Zaino. I also keep some Meguires cleaner wax around. The thing about Zaino is, the more coats you put on, the deeper the shine plus in my experience, its UV protection and "water beading" lasts much longer than other products.

You should consider a water filtration system as well to avoid swirling and scratches from the final wipe down.

NXT is real easy to work with. Here's how I prepped before first use.

1. As always good wash and dry. I use a hand wash at one of the drive in bays, using microfiber to wash (after good soap spraydown) then pressure rinse followed by spot free rinse. Dry.
2. Clay treatment using Megiures detailing clay (or other brand).
3. Apply NXT 2.0 with microfiber applicator. Apply in shade and let dry as long as you are comfortable with. It says 15 minutes is sufficient in normal weather but I like to let it set longer.
4. Microfiber removal.

A good polish might be in order between steps 1 and 2 (maybe in place of clay.) If you don't want to pay a good, reputable, detailer to polish, then skip. But with black you are bound to have some swirls that only a proper polish will remove.

^ non expert advice, just how I'd do it. I have platinum graphite and I followed those steps the first time, then applied another coat of NXT 30 days later, and after 3 months the car is still beading water and looking as pristine as when the stuff was originally applied.

A good start would be to learn the proper washing and drying process as well as the other steps you can do to your vehicle to make it look better. We have a step-by-step guide that walks you through the entire detailing process. On a black vehicle, it's very important to master the proper washing and drying techniques as this is where a majority of swirls and other imperfections form on your paint.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
