best way to remove dust is to wash it. for very light dust you can use a cali duster and a quick detailer from maguires with one of their soft cloth shammees...i have a black car so it shows little scratches when i cali dust it. white should be not as noticeable.

cali duster are known for scratching cars. I'd use one *maybe* if it was the day of a wash and it was coated in pollen, etc. Even then it's a big *maybe*.

You're best off getting a good set of MF towels and some quick detail spray.

i always use the cali duster on my previous G35, and no scrathes or swirls at all..they say the more dirtier that duster is, the better it works!

other than that, i use microfiber towels.

I think you forgot one part. The more dirtier that duster is, the better it works, but the more scratches it leaves on your car too! I don't see how a duster that claims it works better when it's dirtier could NOT leave more scratches on your car...

^+1 White paint is not much different from other colors so can still scratch, it's just harder to notice the scratches. Other people here with black cars have reported the paint being soft, the same coating is used on white.

If continually done improperly, the scratches can accumulate so over the long run you'll start to notice an overall dullness. That's why some older white cars look that way while others properly taken care of still look like new. Better not to have any scratches than try to remove them.

Whether you use duster or MF towels, lightly dust if you are sure the dust is only a light coating, never apply pressure. If unsure or dust is not light, a detail spray will help lift the dust off the paint before you use the MF towels. A good detail spray (like ONR etc.) acts like a soap but doesn't require water rinse off. If you don't have proper stuff, it's actually safer to leave light dust as is until it can be done properly.

My .02 cents

ok here is what you doo for light dust or times when you just cant wash. you get some Quik Detailer, i like meguiars, others like higher priced stuff. I don't like Mothers personally. you spray the quik detiler on the car then you use a VERY CLEAN microfiber towel and wipe away. just be careful.

don't skimp. not all MF towels are made equal. Many leave fibers behind. I picked up a large pack of MF towels at Costco that I use for washing and general purposes. When it comes to drying and/or quick details I use the waffle weave.

What do you mean general purposes? Im thinking about detailing my car my self but not sure... It raiined near me yesterday and i took the g out im yet to look at it im pretty sure its going to look dirty, im either going to take it for a hand car wash or go out and buy all detailing goodies on my own..

Can i use waffle weave all the time I.E. to remove dust or just a simple wipe down?
