I broke the cardinal rule, and now I must pay....

The rain here in Seattle had my G looking extremely dirty.

So today, I thought instead of hand washing, I would take it to an upscale car wash place.

Low and behold, the guy driving the car into the wash left the driver's window slightly cracked, then the machine scratched each corner of the easily scratched black paint, and then the guy that dried it scratched the rear bumper with a likely dirty towel. (After I tipped him 3 bucks and asked him to use fresh towels).

Nonethelss, the driver's door, driver's hood/fender, rear trunk lid, rear bumper, and rear upper corners all have scratches.
All of these scratches are not deep and after testing on the worst one, it looks like the Porter Cable will buff them out.

I fortunately had a dry towel in the trunk and got all the water on the front seat cleaned off before the leather got hurt. I went over the leather with some Meguires conditioner as soon as I got home. But - I broke the cardinal rule of black paint - which is HAND WASH ONLY!

And now, I have to spend 4 or 5 hours buffing the heck out of the paint and wearing the clear-coat ever so slightly down.

in a pinch you can take it to a touchless wash then use a fresh MF towel, quick detail spray.

I'd rather have a dirty car for a few days than a scratched car

The dealer where I took my G35 for it's oil change had a horrible car wash. They use a stiff brush, kind of like the big ones you use to sweep dust off the ground.

Yeah I believe it was those. I cannot be too sure as I was watching from a distance. But I don't know about using any brush on my car. Maybe for the rims and tires.

IoA does seem to do good, they even vaccuum... but i've now limited them to JUST vacuum... started seeing faint hairline, cobweb type light scratches. It shows in the sun! I have athens blue. I think it happens when the dry it.

Prtty sad tho... it def needs some Swirlbuster polish or something now.
