Damn, first big ticket in years
Then it's good that he didn't do it there.
Here it is not called reckless. It's called speeding until we exceed 50km/h over at which point it's called Careless Driving.
I am not attempting to defend his actions. I just wanted to make it clear that he wasn't driving 43MPH over the speed limit (as Mattster posted). He broke the law and was caught. 103km/h on a 60km/h roadway is still bad, accidental or otherwise.

26 MPH or 43 km/h....still lapse in judgement. More so than the actual speed, the point of my post was his Hyundai comment.
Could care less how fast he was going, nor will I lose sleep if the ticket isn't reduced. Speeding is speeding is speeding....and that gets you fines if you get caught.
Let's put actual speed in perspective, since you brought it up. Most residential neighborhoods are 25mph where I live. Highway speeds are 65. So in comparison he would have been going 51 in a 25 or 91 in a 65 on the highway. Both of those gets you arrested down here. And the op was 3 mph away from getting arrested for "careless driving". The officer may have given him a break on the speed as well so as not to do paperwork...but that's just speculation.
But you're correct, he didn't do it down here.
hey Brian I PM'd you my number call me when you get a chance, my cousin does paralegal... I got a 66km/hr over in a construction zone back in the day... lets just say my record isnt that bad now :-P
Blue, you still haven't told me about the rim scratch yet
Anyhoo, my story before the 50km/hr rule in Ontario I was caught going 59 over in an 80 zone (country road) with my Camaro (not proud of what I did...running home in hopes to catch an ex cheating on me). It was an automatic court date back in the day. I hired pointts ($500) to fight it in court for me as I was worried about drivers licence suspension as well. The pointts guys case was to fight it with checking the calibration logs for the gun that caught me to argue it could have been wrong or it was too long between calibrations.
Well it would be my luck the cop that caught me was in charge of calibrating all radars for the county so his log book was maticulous. Then to top it off the prosecutor wasn't in the mood to bargain to drop the speed even 1 km/hr. So on top of the $500 for pointts to represent me, I ended up with a $600 ticket and 6 demerit points. Expensive lesson learned but at least I didn't have my licence suspended.
So as much as I didn't buy my G to drive Ms. Daisy, it is russian roulette when stomping on the gas.
So if you had representation, that's probably what they will try and do as well. Of course it maybe easier to have the ticket thrown out in the big city compared to my small town where the cop has all the time in the world to show up in court for the proceedings.

Thanks Ontario, already sought some legal help and they said I have nothing to worry about. That is not really that fast so I will probably get no points and 15 over. For all the others, its KM/hour, not miles if you haven't figured it out yet. I was just looking for a little advice to help out, not get scolded like a little child. If I made a bad decision, we ALL have and I will accept my responsibility. Ontario, the scratch is nothing too bad, I got lucky considering how hard I hit the curb, I take turns so wide I just f'd up getting into my driveway, sucks but they still look good. See you at the next meet.
