Auto Insurance

Got an email from my Insurance Co. recommending that I increase the liability limit to $2 million. (It's currently at $1 Million)... Which leads me to wonder if others have $2 Million liability and if courts would actually award over $1 Million in a car accident situation...

I'm not a 100% sure how Canadian insurance policy are written but a typical high liablitity policy in CA has limits of 250/500/100, meaning $250,000 per person bodily injury, $500,000 for the entire occurence, but not exceeding $250,000 per person, and $100,000 for property damage. If the customer wanted more liability coverage I would recommend an Umbrella which would bring you up to 1 million or higher depending on what level you choose. The Umbrella will not only cover your automobile exposure but will also include your primary residence, investment properties and toys such as wave runners, motorcycles, and probably in your case a snowmobile. Just raising you limits on Auto only helps you out in one type of exposure, where the umbrella is all incompassing.
