Rust-proofing
why type of rust proofing would you consider ? just a light spray or those resin type ?
Well if by light spray you mean the oil that they spray into the holes drilled into the body, that usually requires annual re-application and IMHO is not as good as the grease/resin type. Plus drilling additional holes in the body just isn't cool with me. The grease type doesn't have to re-applied every year but takes a long time to apply, it is more effective I have heard though.
Do you know which product/service out there that does a once-only application? All of the good ones I've read about require annual re-application, and from many people's testimonials online, anything less just doesn't work in the long run (which is the whole point, anyway!).
would an alternative be the rust protector circuit thing that you can get at canadian tire. you basically plug the unit in and its supposed to protect agains rust.
i know in civil engineering, those type of units actually do exist to protect critical components in sewer and sanitary lines. after all you cant expect to dig up the entire road to replace rusting components

^^ the circuit thing is bo bo, doesn't do anything, its been tested by my local newspaper driving section.
Chemical spray is the best in my opinion. I have an 89 pontiac that is used everyday, rain or shine, every Montreal winter and has been exposed to harsh Montreal salty roads and there is minimal rust.
The only reason why it's still good is because it has been rust-proofed every year, except last year and now the rust is coming big time

cathotic protection "circut thiny" only works if your car is well grounded like a grounding rod in the ground. KROWN FTW i co-own a 67 comet cyclone with my dad who lives in NS. and even though we do not drive that car in the winter we use krown .
its actually not cathodic because it uses a capacitor. anyways the point is that civil works like bridge and sewers uses cathodic protection, you dont need a power source for it. i have in my g, the alternative, which is the capactive coupler. just a fancy term for changing the charge of your car to negative so it prevents oxidization. in terms of proven efficiency, i cant argue if it works or not, but it does come with a lifetime warranty and warrants my car from any surface rust. that by itself is good enough for me.
It's a thing u can get at Canadian Tire

so...did any of you guys get rust proofing done? is it really necessary?
my mom has a 97 ES300...i hardly see any signs of rust...during the winter, she gets a carwash every few weeks at esso with the underbody spray (by redeeming points)...that seems to do the job ok?

i was thinking too, if it costs 150 + tax to do a annual sprat at krown, would it not be better if i paid $7 every odd day to take it to a car wash and get it rinsed ?? that will give you 20+ washes in the winter. seems like its better to me because you are actually getting rid of the salt everytime.
