Those Who Bought in the US, Please Help!

I received my MCO but it isn't notarized (you have to fax it to the US border 72 hrs in advance). I tried calling them but had to leave a message instead. The car is arriving in NY state soon, I need to know will I have any problems? Should I send it back to the dealer to have it notarized? This would delay my ability to pickup the car & I'd end up having to pay storage fees.

I would take it locally to get notarized, sending it to the dealer could take 2-3 days. Storage fees? Really?!

I'm no expert (just been doing my own research), but I have never heard of any requirement that the MCO be notarized. You should ask your question on (or search) the giant Red Flag Deals thread. If an importing situation has arisen, you can be fairly confident it has been addressed there.

On the front, it is certified & signed by an agent of Infiniti corporate but on the back, there is a place for a public notary. I haven't been able to get any info as to whether NY state requires the MCO to be notarized.

I'm looking at the back of my MCO and there is no signature for Notary Public.

The small print underneath ssays:
Use Notarization only if required in Titling Jurisdiction.

Since I bought in California, this is not required.

The key words here are "Titling Jurisdiction"; if you bought in NY, then that would be NY. You need to find out from the dealer you bought from, if that needs to be signed for the state you purchased in.

I also bought it in California, but had it shipped to NY state where I'm driving it myself into Ontario. So it's based on the state I bought it from?

What did your shipping cost come out to by picking it up yourself at the border?

I would say yes.

Shipping to Buffalo (near the border but not quite) cost me about $1100 Cdn. This includes insurance & them picking it up straight from the dealer. It would've cost me almost double to ship it straight to my home in Toronto.

I noticed that when I was getting quotes, no matter if the state was close to Buffalo or not, the cost was always close (shipping from Illinois instead of California was only $200 cheaper). But once it becomes "international", the price shoots up. Part of that is probably because they're doing some of the paperwork for you if they're crossing the border.
