Opinion needed

Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and was looking for some guidance. I recently discovered the g37x while researching the BMW 3 series (335 specifically). Anyway, I wanted to know if you guys would purchase a 2013 g37xs from Car Sense (roughly $28k) or a 2013 g37x from a dealership for say the same price? I am conflicted because from the dealership, I get the certified warranty, but from Car Sense, I think it is only for 6 or 12 months, but get the "S" model.

looking forward to reading your responses.

Do you know what is included on the S model, and is it important to you?

Hey Black Betty, I think I know some of the things that come with the " model...front grill, rims, paddle shifters, bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, and I believe the stitching in the seats. Is there anything else? I like the way the front looks with the S, but for me, the warranty is more important just for peace of mind which then leads me to another question...how reliable is the g37? One of the reasons I started looks at this car as opposed to the BMW 335 was reliability of the BMW and high maintenance cost.

Generally it is pretty reliable. Older year models are affected with an oil galley gasket leak that's expensive to fix. But '13 models don't suffer with it.

All things being equal, many people would choose the S. If the warranty is very important t to you negotiate for a longer warranty to be included in your purchase price. Tell them it's important and ask for all her coverage. They'll counter offer something or possibly offer to sell you longer coverage at a good price.

When it comes to the gasket issue that BB mentioned the 2012 version also avoids this issue. It's the pre 2012 that has that issue. Given that it is fairly rare to come across I would also suggest getting a 2012+ just to give you piece of mind with your purchase.

Since both of the vehicles you're looking at are a 2013 I would probably go with the S model only for the extra little goodies that it comes with. I don't really see you falling into any serious issues with a newer model like that and I'm going to assume the mileage on them is below the 40k mark?

Best of luck with the purchase and keep us posted on your decision! Hopefully we can give you an official G welcome in the near future.

Definitely get the s model. I am busy obtaining all the parts to convert my non s into an s as close as possible and it isn't cheap. Would have much rather just financed the purchases as part of my car loan and get them from the factory.

Is it mandatory where you live to get the X model? The reason I ask is the non-X "S" model gives you a whole lot more. Just something to consider since you were comparing to BMW RWD.

you should ride in the "S," before you commit. It looks sportier and it rides that way which might not be bad at first but for a daily driver it might weigh on your bum. The "S," will most likely have sportier tires which would not perform as well as all seasons in the snow if that is important to you. I would check which packages are equipped in each car (Premium, Tech, Nav) because the G37x does have a sport package which offers a lot of the options you might want anyways

"The G37x also offers an optional Sport package, though it is essentially an appearance package with 18-inch wheels carrying all-season tires, unique exterior styling and sport seats."

"The Technology package (not available on the Sport) adds adaptive cruise control with collision-mitigation braking, automatic wipers and an upgraded climate control system with an air purifier."

so if the G37x has sport and tech package it might be the better deal otherwise if you can roll the stiffer suspension and do not mind the tire ordeal go with the S

reliability is subjective to your driving habits. My G has 79000 Miles, one new battery, gas, oil. I have an aftermarket 12" sub in my trunk so it might have shortened the life of the stock battery

Hi Everyone, thank you all for the input and apologize for the late response. I did not know that I had more comments to my posts. Just an update, the "S" model is no longer on Car Sense's website. I am assuming it sold. I was able to find an "S" and a non "S" from the say dealer in Jersey (I live in Western PA) so I would have to drive about 6.5 hours to buy one of them. I do like the look of the "S" model, but not sure if I would like the "stiff" ride. Which ever one I do purchase, it would not be my DD, mainly a weekend car and every now and then, to work. Maybe for the amount I would be driving, the "S" would not be too bad. Here are links of the cars I found. Let me know what you guys think....

Infiniti G37 Pre Owned Vehicle WEST LONG BRANCH Coupe Black Automatic Gasoline 18370 miles 25900 Dollar - CIRCLE INFINITI
Infiniti G37 Pre Owned Vehicle WEST LONG BRANCH Coupe Blue Automatic Gasoline 21454 miles 29995 Dollar - CIRCLE INFINITI

I love the price of the non "S" version and the color. Like the look and the rims of the "S".

The S is by far worth the purchase. Let me break this down for you...

S has better sway bars $200 minimum upgrade cost for non S
S has better brakes $1000 minimum upgrade for non s
S has better struts and springs $300 minimum upgrade for non S
List goes on a bit more but you get the picture I hope

Do not tell the dealer where you came from. Park your car so he does not see the tag or tell them you just moved locally. If they know you drove that far they won't haggle at all they will know you want the car.

Thank you for the reply 4door, much appreciated and thanks for dropping the knowledge. You do not think it would be wise not to tell the dealer I drove from PA? I was thinking about speaking to them on the phone before ever leaving my place, hammering our a price, getting and email from the dealer confirming the price, then going there to test drive the car and buying it if I like it. You think that is not the best way to handle it? I would just hate to go that way and not have an agreement in place already. I could be wrong though as this would be the first time I ever tried buying a car out of state before.

Also, what do you guys think of the color? Have any of you seen this color in person? Not sure if these pics do the car justice. What about the price? Are they fair prices for the year and milage? Thanks again.

I got my sedan with 27k miles cpo for 24,500. I have a premium journey.

You could try negotiating via email but in person I feel is best.
