How do you haggle and deal when trying to buy a car?
Need some methods and techniques on how to negotiate when buying a car....this is my first "expensive" car that i'm financing that I havent purchased outright
fyi the price is $27xxx and i'd like to get them in the 25xxx range

said I have 35k all together that's all I can afford.they said ok.send deposit. ...
I picked up my car next day.this was 3 years ago.2011 m37 sport 1 owner.16,500 miles
every option but that weak parking assist warning.plus 100k warranty.full detail.new tires.1 year sirius.fully serviced.35000 total.I was a happy camper.cuz it's 60k off the lot new.
Just be honest with what u have $.and say that's the only car you want period.they need to make a sale.
I relentlessly look online for better and better deals on the car that I want. Yes some of the deals are better than others be that particular car doesn't have a certain package or has more mileage....but this is just a mini road block. Find at least 3-4 cars that share packages and the same geberal mileage, year model etc.
Now when you go to deal with the car dealership you are armed with 3-4 different (but the same) cars for better prices that you just so happen to have pulled up on your phone already. Once he/she says that's the best they can do, pull out your phone and start showing them better deals on basically the same ride. Then just tell the dealership that unless they can meet or beat these prices then you'll be forced to purchase one of the other vehicles. Boom...done.

Don't walk into the dealer. If you do, you've already lost the battle.
You DO NOT want to deal with the sales people on the floor.
Contact the online/fleet manager via email, or call. Set up an appointment.
Second rule:
Set a price for yourself, and be ready to walk away without the car, if they won't deal.
Or do what I now do.
Ive been negotiating over the phone since 2000.
If they don't take me seriously, they don't sell a car.
I bought a MINI last year over the phone, actually spoke with the BMW sales manager,
got 0% 4 year financing, 0 down, $4K under sticker, and stipulate that they will not attempt to upsell anything to me, while in the F&I office. That was at 9:59PM on a Friday night. Went in 12 hours later to complete the deal.
Same method similar terms for my wife's Lexus CT200H.
You prolly know this but go to kelllybluebook.com and check prices there. Then go to autotrader n check prices. There are a couple other sites to look at as well. If you find the best deals on the car you want with similar mileage...you'll be well armed to get the deal you want. If they don't agree then walk away
No need to haggle. That's the 1st step.
I like to buy my new cars off the lot. No ordering and waiting and you get a better deal because they have to get rid of their inventory. So I shop on the internet (inventory) and look on Sundays to avoid the salespeople.
After you do your research, I use consumer reports & edmunds to see what the lowest price for the car should be.
You don't have to haggle because when you're ready to buy, YOU make them the offer not the other way around. I find that making my offer in writing all typed out including the VIN number, my price, factoring in tax, title, loan, trade-in value, etc.
Yes, I said trade in value. That's because I keep my cars for 10 years and trade them in when I'm ready for a new one. My offer includes the trade-in value which has also been researched. I drive in with the old, drive away with the new.
You give Jimmy the salesman your written offer after the test drive. Some people avoid Jimmy. I do the opposite. I get Jimmy all excited. In fact on the way back to the dealer, I tell Jimmy I absolutely love the car and this is going to be his quickest sale of the day.
Except after he sees my written offer, Jimmy panics and hands it to the manager who closes the deal with me on my terms, no exceptions.
Remember... written offer that includes everything after thorough research. And be calm. Tell Mr manager that they don't have to accept your offer today. They can think it over and call you later. But just understand that I'll be doing the same thing at another dealer once I leave. If you accept my offer, I'm prepared to sign today.
Oh yea... your offer is a good one... slightly lower than your researched lowest price to let them bargain you up a little. Usually I let them burn it slightly on the trade in which was already purposely overestimated. This is fun, should not be painful in any way.

I like to use craigslist. Call them up, ask to see the car and say youre ready to get it today. Dont negotiate over the phone. Drive it, nitpick it, then offer something a little lower than what youre willing to pay. Sometimes you gotta coerce them with the sight of money. If they decline, go up a little. People will give you a deal when they see that youre serious.
