Trust Carmax?
Trust Carmax?
Hi there- I'm about to purchase a 2012 G37x through Carmax (it's being transferred now). It has fairly high mileage for its age: 33k, but the AutoCheck didn't turn up any immediate signs of trouble. VIN JN1CV6AR2CM6xxxxx. Should I be worried that it went to auction? Is Carmax pretty reliable when it comes to selecting and testing its cars? Thanks.

I wouldn't be worried about the vehicle going to auction. A lot of dealerships send cars to auction that are lease returns or even just trade ins. I just purchased a 2012 that the dealership got from an auction myself. The big thing you have going for you is that vehicle still has the remainder of the 4 year/60,000 bumper to bumper warranty from Infiniti. Also 33k miles isn't really that high for a 2 year old car especially if the original purchase date was early 2012. My 2012 was leased in December of that year and had around 24.5k miles on it when I got it 2 weeks ago.
I would not take carfax for granted. I bought a G37 from carmax and it had a clean carfax. After I got it home and a road trip later I noticed issues with the paint (more than likely a parking lot painter and then some minor alignment issues with the front end (bumper, headlights). So before you buy give it a really good look over for minor dents, body waves, and gapping.
All the Carmax I've been to their cars are normally in good condition. They know how to pick their cars and do a lot of inspections. That's why they normally charge a premium. That's here in tx at least. Have them ship the vehicle here and do your own inspection before finalizing.
